I just wanted to know if anyone heard the interview KB had with the great man?

Gee the t-shirt one , when he speaks to just in awe of him. Truly an inspirational man. He is what in his 70"s , still goes for his daily swin, push ups and sit ups, run routine and hasnt missed a beat. He would alot of footballers to sahme even now in his 70's.

He spoke about a few topics.

1. That Richmond should look at getting an experience coach out of Malthouse or Matthews. They need this type of coach who is no nosence type of character to sort out the place. Someone who has had premiership success. He spoke that anyone one of these coaches could take us to finals next year. Was surprised that Rawlings was selected as coach. Thought they would have gone with Campbell.

2. Cant stand the modern game with the high possession style. More handballs to kicks ratio. He said that he even hears supporters at the games getting frustrated and saying" just kick it, kick it long".

3. He still does alot of talks especially in country areas and he just loves grass roots football.

4. Firm believer that young adults, kids should be involved in exercise and sports. Contributing factor in helping kids get off drugs and all other bad influences etc.

5. Richo is one of his favourite players. Rates him highly and thinks he should go on and play again. Not only next year but for 2 years. He loves watching him play. Loves watching other teams play and games. Has favourite players from all clubs.

6. Never use to do this before , but does do this now. Has left games at half time. Has left dissapointed in the sides performances and it is something he never would have done previously. Even when he has watched games on t.v has been known to swicth the t.v off in frustration. Then he does just to bed and this is a classic line" Tommy has the game finished. ? Who won? Its half time love(something along those lines).

7. Hates it when a coach is changed mid season. Believes that contracts should be honoured. Believed that the Tigers would gain nothing unless there were circumstances he wasnt aware of.

8. Was approached by the then Brisbane Bears to take over when they sacked Northey and said he cant do that. Stated that there were other clubs that had enquired about his availability in similar circumstances but again declined. I was trying to get through to ask KB or Tommy if the Tigers around that time when Northey left to coach the Bears was he approached. I had heard a rumour about this but i believe at the time the vote was taken and motion passed as a "no". It was the time when Mal Brown was there. He should never have been sacked in 76. We won flags in 73, 74 lost the unbeatable one in 72 and he gets sacked. That was the begginning of the end of the Tigers. Yes we won the 1980 grand final, lost the unbeatable one in 82(again against Carlton) and then the sacking of coaches escalated.

9. Spoke also about how he still remembers watching or coaching certain players when they were younger and when he sees these players or he attends functions like the recent one with Geelong(which he was humbled and honoured) players came up to him and just wanted to speak to him.

10. Lastly , there may have been other points but i cant recall now. But i want to finsih with this one. KB asked Tommy why he wasnt wearing a t-shirt and Tommy replied with certain humour that he thought he would wear what he did. KB then said are you feeling the cold these days Tommy? Dont tell us you do> Tommy replies maybe i do KB. Its cold now but in a few months it will be colder.

Anyway hope most of you got something out of this.

Richmond should do whateve it takes to have him a role at the club ,a mentoring role. A role mentoring young players who come to the club of the rich history of the club and what it means to put on the Richmond jumper. I previously have written that Sheed's should do this but maybe they both should have this duel role. A youn recruit listening to these greats could do wonders.

Great to read that Waiting. I miss this stuff in London if guys like you don't post 'em here so thanks again.

Good onya Waiting...........

Tommy will always be my favourite footballing person........just hope I get to meet him sometime :)

pharace i have met the great man and he was a pleasure to talk to, humble and polite. Loves his fitness which i do too.

There has to be a role for him down there.

Had the pleasure have Tommy coming to my local club a few years back and taking us for training. He strode in stripped off and put on his Port melbourne jumper chattin to us all in the rooms. Great body for a 70 year old man i must say. Anyway it was all about the simple things in the game and we had to scream out each others names (something i have always done but a lot of young players dont talk on the track now, well not about footy anyway ;)) It started raining heavily and he stood out there with us all the time and just kept going on it was one of my great memories.

Also he did mention that he had offered to coach the Tigers when the Northey saga happened, he felt he could still do it and wanted to but the club didnt think he could. He did say that he probably couldnt coach now but certainly in back then he felt the drive to do it. Who knows had he we may of had a flag or at least a side that has some pride and passion right now!!!

He's a great man but I don't know if I completely agree with everything he's said.

Sometimes when I'm out exercising in the mornings, in the winter, I would see this man in his speedos walking from the beach and across the road. Tommy Hafey everytime. He'd always say hello too. I'd be rugged up and he'd just be strolling as casual as can be, pre-dawn, in his speedos. Amazing.

Great effort Waiting, thanks.

The latter point in No.8 reflects the arrogance, pride, and stupidity that still exists today at the club.

Disagree.

Let's forget about the F word for a few years until we get our house in order.
