Anzac Day Clash

Your missing the point Tygrs.
The diggers and all war vets were all Collingwood and Essendon supporters. So therefore these are the only two clubs that should be allowed to play on this day of remembrance.

. . . I've tipped Essendon, so they're bound to lose with my tipping form this year. ;D

You and me both, Jools - 'cept I tipped Collingwood to lose, guess it's the same thing.

Pies did a good job. I was surprised at Cloke's game. That Davey burnt early on.

Perhaps any profits over what would be expected for a normal Collingwood Essendon game could go to digger-related charities, since the two teams and the AFL are only concerned with commemorating and respecting ANZAC day.

Point taken...all the cowards and conscientious objectors supported the other clubs - I withdraw my criticisms...

All the clubs want to play Collingwood and Essendon twice becuase of the crowds they draw, as a trade off the AFL give Essendon and Collingood Anzac Day.

I did not know about the old Anzac Day games very intresting stuff, still doesn't change my view on it.
Stand by what I said last year.

What would they do if the game was taken from them? Tell the league and the rest of the clubs they are only going to play the other teams just once (except for each other, they make an exception there and play each other twice) and insist the AFL reduce the home and away season to just 17 matches???

It's simply about the greed of two clubs and their pathetic lapdogs that run the league, nothing else...

Damn straight Ryegrass.

Excellent appraisal.

l was there in 1982 when Richmond played Essendon. Full house and the Tigers won by over 60 points.
Maybe if that was a draw we would be playing this tradition match now.

If the AFL are not going to share this day they should at least play the Grand Finalist from previous years at the MCG.

Hate to burst you bubble B2 but that game was not played on Anzac day. It was played on April 12th 1982.

If it had been played on Anzac day we would have got close to 100,000 I reckon as the Bombers & the Tiges were having a good start to the year.

l am 27.4% sure that was Anzac Day ;)

Was at the game - massive crowd, appauling game.

Why these two teams have the right to play on this day is beyond me.

Let me say that the conditions at Royal & Ancient Burnley, yesterday, were magnificent.

Fortunately there were no sounds or reports of crashes on the Freeway when my son tee'd off at the 7th.

90,000 is all they got when the MCG seats 92,000 and standing room holds 8,000. The whether was perfect and that's all they got?

Richmond vs Collingwood rd 3 got over 70,000 and that was without any hype or pre game entertainment like Jet's, Helicopter, etc.

The ANZAC day game got easily 20,000 neutral supporters. So why are the AFL still bending over backwards to feed these two clubs?

I wholeheartedly agree with the above. The game should be on a roster and everyone given a chance, whoever is playing there will be a full house, plenty of people go who don't support both teams. Since it is hard to get tickets to a GF then the Anzac Day game should be shared around, while all you have to do is book a ticket beforehand, not go into a ballot, or only have 10,000 available to each club as per Grand Final day.

That is true, I'd even prefer it if the Bulldogs and Fremantle played, just to give the struggling clubs a go. It doesnt make sense and these clubs gain revenue from such a great day. Let everyone enjoy the day for what it is.
