Anzac Day honours

Do you think it was good that the AFL honoured Anzac Day 8 times over 6 days?

I think the AFL is only doing it to try and appease the supporters of the other teams who don't get to share in the special day that Scumwood and Effenscum seem to have a reservation on.

yep, thats why i think they should do it as we don't get a go on anzac day.

Perhaps the previous year's grand finalists could play on ANZAC day e.g this year could have been the Swannies and the Beagles.  Does seem unfair that Bummers and Scumwood have a duopoly on the game.

i sorta agree. i think it should be the 2 highest placed victorian teams from the previous year and play the game at the G. it's an absolute disgrace the AFL have kow-towed to collingwood and essendon on this. it's all the more reason we should be joining forces with carlton for an annual good friday bockbuster

Hot cross buns in January are an abomination. They are for one day and one day only. Don't get me started on "choc cross buns". >:(

Too true, I refuse to buy them until we're quite close to Good Friday, even though I love them.

But choc cross buns - yum! Especially if you microwave them for a few seconds so the chocolate melts......

As for the Anzac day match - Essendon initiated it and got it going, so good luck to them. When Richmond becomes successful, we will get enormous crowds no matter what round it is. I've been to home and away matches where we had around 80,000 at the G (OK, that was a few years ago).

I think having a commemortation before each match was fine. The silence of the crowds with the respect shown was amazing. Anything that makes the people watching the game think about the sacrifices made by those who fought is welcome, whether on Anzac Day, Rememberance Day or any other day of the year for that matter.

Reading the last few posts has made me realise how few of the young supporters realised that the Tigers were BIGGER THAN BEN HUR in the glory years......a club to be feared, envied and jealously admired........Bigger than the pies,Bombers and Blues all put together.........
may those days come again..........

May have been bigger but not smarter in coming up with the idea.

Being at the Gabba on Saturday night,I have to admit it brought a lump to my throat and was a moving moment.

It was done with class, was short and basically well done.

I honestly don't have a problem with it. Happy to keep it for the whole round.

I can understand people only wanting it done on ANZAC day itself, but to me it's all about paying tribute rather than doing it on a special day only.

Some people aren't able to attend ANZAC services on the day or even allowed to stop and observe a minute's silence (depends a lot on where you work and who for), plus it means once a year all the players get to play in tribute to the ANZAC legacy.

I like the ANZAZ round concept.
