Could not agree more.If a Field umpire makes a silly mistake and gives a fifty for a certain goal, we bleat for a while, then move on...
Why are goal umpires not allowed to make an occasional error?
Ditch the arc and we will all watch in anticipation for the double hand signal and rejoice like we used to. Right when it happens.
Waiting for peanuts to adjudicate with dodgy inconclusive technology adds an unnecessary anti-climactic and ugly layer to our game.
Too much flex in a breeze, you'd have the goal posts flappin about trying to swat the footy like it was some kind of large dunny budgie goin past.Easy solved ….just have 50 metre high posts
Just use the Goal umpire...it's traditional! If a Field umpire makes a silly mistake and gives a fifty for a certain goal, we bleat for a while, then move on...

The flagpoles off the West Gate should cover it!Currently only 15m high. Would need to be more than 3 times it's current height!
Goal umps will need binoculars to see if the footy goes over their top!!!The flagpoles off the West Gate should cover it!
Ah,but that is where the AFL will use drones.Goal umps will need binoculars to see if the footy goes over their top!!!
Like it.

Well it certainly did just that!Because people are sooks and the moment a mistake is made it will be bleated about for days with the constant carping about a 'professional competition' and 'what if it costs someone a Grand Final one day?'.
Well it certainly did just that!
Sorry to drag up the ARC debacle but I couldn't help but think about the gulf in technology between what we see at the Superbowl and what the AFL serves up.
In the NFL every play is analysed within a millimeter of its life. Contentious plays/calls are viewed from a multitude of angles (all in high def) so as to get the correct result.
The AFL has a potato camera
I understand that we're talking about two different sports with very different budgets etc, but the AFL are now bragging about a $20M profit last year and a pay rise for the fat cats. Surely thay could run down to JB Hifi with the credit card and get something

As for Thursday nights and floating fixtures, I don't mind Thursday night footy (yes I know that it's hard for members attending that have to work the next morning), and my gripe about floating fixtures is the uncertainty around planning (for those from interstate or country).I'd assume it comes down to the money invested by the broadcasters, which would be based on the revenue. Our market will always find it hard to match that.
There's conflicting forces at play in that people want better camera coverage but also push back on things that make football more profitable for TV, like Thursday nights and floating fixtures. If we want to improve the game we need to accept it is done via TV money.
