Are our new boys ready to play next season?

Just wondering if any of our 3 new kids are likely to get much of a sniff  next year assuming they all have big pre-seasons..

Jarred sounds light but then again Richie wasn't built like Hercules either and he was expected to play first round.

Cleve went a lot later than expected.  Does that mean he possibly be more forward as the earlier picks tend to be?

Does Travis have any chance or is he more of a project player for the future, as all of them possibly are I suppose.

I have a feeling that they will see what they are like during the nab cup. They seem to do this most years,if they peform reasonably they most likly play a few games during the year.

I'll be expecting one of our new boys from 2004 to make his debut in the NAB cup next year, I think his name is Dean Polo.

As for the 2005 crop, I will expect a minimum of 6 games each for JON, Hughes & Casserley, however that'll all depend on injuries & form from the other's.

I should have said likely rather than ready sorry.

I agree they'll probably have a chance to show their stuff in the pre-season comp.  Would be interested in the chances anyone gives them at this stage if they've actually watched them play.

I can't wait for the first time they run out in the yellow and black.   It's so refreshing to have new hopes and expectations.  The season suddenly seems closer now.

I reckon your right about Polo he came close at the end of this season I'm looking forward to see how he goes in next season.

We're getting a really good group of kids around us now. Cogs is really impressed with them and is working his butt off so they leave him behind. ;D

Competition and good comeraderie is something we've lacked and it's good to see so many young blokes come through together to spur each other on and keep everyone honest.

Daniel Jackson told me the kids are a really close knit group determined to bring success to Tigerland.

I'm really looking forward to our future. :D

I saw alot of competition and especially good comeraderie at trianing on Friday. It was something that really stood out and I was very impressed with alot of our younger stocks being very vocal and displaying leadership qualities.

I guess Claw (IcsM) and any other Sandgropers are best placed to answer this one.

JON played seniors for East Perth this year. Now I presume the pace of AFL increases from the WAFL but that wouldn't be an issue for our JON really would it?

If he's playing already for the big lads over there then he cop a tackle from an AFL guy can't he. especially when you think their grounds are probably like sealed car parks to land on.

Except perhaps that the decision making also needs to be quicker and smarter: ie: where to run to and where to send the ball to.

But Tamblings and deledio, and probably JON too, all seem to run flat out and kick it into the hot spot or go at the goal themselves. You don't need much 'learning for that'.

From the brief footage that I have seen I think Casserly will play more games that J-O-N or Hughes.

He is a back flanker rather than a key position (Hughes) and with a more mature body as well as a year older than J-O-N. Given that he is a good kick and quite fast I reckon he'll be pretty much ready to from the start.

I reckon he may get up to 10 games with J-O-N perhaps getting 5. Hughes may get a taste late in the year with 2 or 3.

Hopefully we see a glimpse of talent from all 3 in the NAB competition over our 4 games!

I agree.

Jon and Cleaver will spend most of the year in the Ressies whilst Casserly is the most likely to play this year at least a small number of games, better developed and even TW has intimated that Trav is the most likely. Trav also can be looked at in the role of the small rebounding back.

The boys wont play too many games as the duds will still get games every week but more pertinant is that guys such as Roach, Raines, Polo ,Foley will have more scope to play as a poor year in 06 could end any of their careers, therefore TW will put some acid on them to perform and step up.

Vacancies:

Cleve Hughes is 19yo in January. Doesn't look a mature young man for his years so has plenty of upside, you'd guess. You'd expect him to debut as a #3 forward in the P.Bowden or C.Tarrant mould (somewhere in between).

Our list is desperate for a semi tall forward. You'd expect CH to get a chance a bit earlier than a full back might because of our deficiency in his area.

However, the scuttlebutt is that he hasn't been the most devoted trainer during his junior days. The coaches will be all over his workrate on the track. He will have to prove himself in this area before he is considered.

We also desperately need a long kicking, hard running halfback. Particularly a receiver. That's what Casserley does. He's 19yo in May. He'll play most of his career outside anyway so his weight's not a big issue. He's not out of the question for an early debut. Agreesion is probably the thing he'd work on.

JON is a very physically immature BOY. 17yo. He has star quality as a junior. We probably have him earmarked for HBF/Wing/Mid but that's not where I'd expect him to debut. We have a desperate shortage of running HFFs and the young JON may be able to give us something there if we get injuries (Bling?) or he comes on more quickly than expected.

The next big chunk of inforamtion on the progress of the newbs will come in the intra club try-outs and matches. This'll give us a real guide as to whether any of these lads is ready. I love these games. The up and comers always stand out. If we've got any.
