Are the media too harsh on Richmond ??

Mike Sheahan's article today was quite good I thought touching on similar themes.

We have been cr@p for a long time so it takes an even longer time to earn the respect back. I really don't have an issue with that.

Remember, two finals series since 1982. That is a pitiful record and we are quite correctly being judged on it.
Agree, although the media went easy on Casey depite his numerous failings as president.

Damn straight. Fatrick Smith was on of the worst. Bagged Captain Campbo but kissed up to CCasey. What a wanker.

1. we have no real track record for 25 years right up to last year - why should anyone rate us?  Earning respect takes more than 9 weeks of average-to-good football with 4 losses.

2. Dont credit the media with any intended malice on this:  if we win a few more they will be the first to jump on the bandwagon and start over-rating us a million time over:  thats their nature:  black & white and extremes.

good for everyone to continue to show us no respect and underestimate us:  some opposition supporters may no longer  be looking at Richmond as a gimme; but most would still have the Tige's down as a 'bye':      ...but lets not get hot under the collar about it:  Revenge is a meal best when eaten cold: It will be good fun humbling them all.....

Although the sentiments of your points have merit,do you think that if Scumwood or Essendon were doing as we have the media would judge them so harshly??

Another point to those who believe we deserve the medias stance, the point of the topic is based on what a young list and innovative coach are achieving now......not what we have done in years gone by,why should this group be judged on that??

FWIW I still think we'll more than likely miss the finals, but applaud the effort to beat sides percieved to be 'superior' to us by the willingness of a dedicated young squad.....something I reckon the journos fail to acknowlege!

Finish in the eight at least 3 years in a row, get taken seriously by other teams as a team they dont want to play, then perhaps the media will change voice.

Usually

But did anyone notice Mike Sheehan jumping onboard this morning, saying were a chance to play finals this year.

Since when do journalists jump on board after 2 wins??

To think that 2 weeks in a row, NONE of the tipsters (not including the Kiss of Death) in the Herald sun have tipped us. Last week, fair enough we played Adelaide and we had just been belted the week before. When I saw that none of them picked us to beat Geelong, I nearly fell off my chair! A team who had won 1 out of the last 6, against a side which had a great win the week before. I have never seen a more overrated side than Geelong. Maybe when we get to Round 22, when we are entrenched in the top 5, someone might actually tip us.

Don't worry, DTC. That dog in The Age has quite an opinion of our boys. Het tips us regularly.

They should get that dog to write an article... it would be nice to read us getting a bit of a wrap for a change!

Was the same in 2001, from memory we chalked up 16 wins for the year and it took until about 10 wins (when a finals appearance was a virtual certainty) for the tipsters and media to get on board.

I was quite surprised by Sheahan's article, although he does appear to be a bandwagon jumper.

Don't be fooled with Mr Sheahan, he will be the first to drive the knife right back into RFC when he gets the oppotunity. :frustration

A leopard never changes its spot.

The media can be hard on us at times, but that's our own fault.

But at the same time, I have heard media say that a winning Richmond is exciting and good for the AFL.  We generate an excitment that only Coll can match, and in a few years we will be huge.

You have to earn respect.  Hopefully that is starting to occur.

Mike Sheahans article was great.  It was good to read that he thinks we have been great recently, and that he see's an exciting future for us.

I think Mike gets bagged here at PRE.  But I think he often talks about us honestly and positively.  A few years ago he wrote us up pre season as a finals chance when no one else did ( even though we ended up with the spoon ).  I think Mike likes the excitement of footy, as see's a winning Richmond as exciting.

Im betting he hasn't tipped us once this season.
