Greetings, more a statement post than a query. Been perusing many threads both new and old and the contradictions regarding list management are astounding.
Things such as need more run off HB v too many HB types, to slow across the ground v we need more big men, need KPP v at least 6 names potentially "groomed" for these positions.
Yes RFC has had some diabolical recruiting decisions as have all clubs, can a list be corrected in a year...obviously no, are the "charts" heading in the right direction...for mine I would say long term the answer is yes. I wont name players, but there are current listed players that have and will continue to hold RFC back until suitable replacements are put on the field. The current management seem intent on recruiting footballers whom they also percieve as low risk for external activites to the club (good citizens as it were). To meet all these criteria would surely short list numerous possibilities.....
There are a host of names who would be great for our club....but we can only get them if they are available or made so by any other respective club.
I believe the nucleus is pretty close to being formed....it's the speculative outers that we need to watch.
Cheers....and yes I am barking mad.....

You may or may not be right, but would like to see some evidence of your statement. I would have thought the recruiting....good, bad or indifferent would be based on football skills and ability, either right now or for the future. Can't imagine any club choosing players to be only good citizens.

Most kids haven't even had time to be independent citizens by the time they are drafted. Sure clubs would take the kid with a better attitude over two of similar talent, but it is a bit of a stretch to claim they are targeting people who are good citizens. There is little way of knowing how a kid will turn out after they leave home and make their way into adult life.

i like most of bairdy's statements but the whole good person thing, if that was the case what would we be doing recruiting Polak? I am rapt he is playing with us and playing well, but he has not had the best track record, hopefully that will all turn around.

Polak was recruited by the club also if that were true then Krak and Schulz would be gone straight off also one recruit had a question(no I am not getting into that again) so that doesn't hold sway.

In regards to a diabolical list since the end of 2004 50% of the players on that list are no longer at the club for one reason or another that is a huge turn over. Add to the fact that while we gained Johnson and Brown we missed out on the cream of the youth for 2 years running. Takes some time for the youth to come through and that is where we are.

There may be a year or maybe even 2 of pain left but the club is heading in the right direction and TW's prediction of 2010 is looking good.

the year we traded for Brown the draft was not super, it was dooper.

People in Beijing were saying 'what's that really bad smell, something stinks ...isn't that the AFL 2003 National Draft?'

but the 9 players we have to show from recruiting in 2001, 2002, 2003 are;

Johnson, Brown Schulz Jacko, Raines, Tuck, Hartigan, Moore, Foley.

So how many really, really super dooper youngsters actually have a sustained, successful AFL career?
In my very humble opinion 50% of recruiting is just like buying a tattlotto ticket.
But you have to buy a ticket to win it.

Geez thats not much to show for three years drafts is it.

No wonder we're struggling now.
