0-9 would suggest on paper that we are shocking. However just like sides on paper things dont appear as they seem.
This season we have been in a chance to win in 7 of the 9 games yet for one reason or another we are yet to open our account.
Are we really that bad if you take in the following considerations:
We havnt had our best player in Brown
Same applys to Simmonds
We have had token contributations who in different senerio,s would have been dropped:Pettifer,Tuck,Krakour & Johnson[Broken bone].
Players who to a lesser extent but have gone backwards this year:Raines

Thats 7 players that the side has to fill the gaps in or carry and yet we still in all the games bar 2.
We have played the reigning premiers,Runners up,finalists x3,Plus Geelong who most regard as a finalist.

All in this time we have introduced King,Edwards,Jack and given game time to Hughes,Mcguane,Jackson,Howat,Jon and promising Cubs yet to debut in Casserly,Conners & Collins.

We stil have holes to fill however i believe our future is not as bleak as what some think IMO.

Agree with you. Our team and list has lots of shortcomings but I saw some stuff (quite a lot actually) on Saturday which kept me excited for the future. Injuries to experienced players and the fact that the remaining experienced players are just not good enough to lead is a big problem at the moment.

Yep yep and yep, when you are stilll on the edge of your seat screaming with less than a minute to go
because you are still a chance to win, things cannot be all bad. Asides the result I enjoyed Saturday night
and thought there were way more pluses than not. A bit of spit and polish and experience may have tipped
us over the line but this will come.

Great to see Lids influence a game, not just play.

Fair attempt at a defence J2R.

I would contend we are paying the price for the Casey/Frawley/Beck days.

Pathetic drafting/trading supported by appalling overspending beyond our means that has left a financial hole that has left the restraints upon recruitment/rookies ect which is crippling our attempted resserection.
We are now financially bound to be more responsible, but the club is most certainly paying its dues for its sins. :'(

Meh, give a S@!T what others think? 8)

On top of the 4 thrashings last season? We still have a long, long way to go before we are a good side.
How many other teams are copping regular hidings like that?

Whilst we have some promising kids coming through so do most teams.

I honestly have no idea if we are improving or not at this point.
I'd like to believe we are better than 2004, but when you go through our list there are still a heap of players who are short of AFL standard.

I compare us to the Dons last year. Cellar dwellars for most of the year but I always felt they were better than that. Lost a lot of close games and normally put up a fight. A bit like we are if you ignore the cats match.

We are not quite th Greg Chappelle of the AFL (we are not playing bad, we just keep losing games), but we keep losing due to key weaknesses we have talked ad nauseum on (i.e. lack of experience, key position injuries, young legs, etc).

vs Blues: in front...lost
vs Swans: in front...lost
vs Magpies: in front...lost
vs Bulldogs: lost
vs Eagles: in front...lost
vs Cats: needed to drop % to get below Dees
vs Power: consolidate % drop
vs Crows: drew level...lost
vs Bombers: in front...lost

Tank you very much.

(Blues to proved missing piece of puzzle by winning a few more games)

I agree with you. I still believe that our skills are poorer than most teams however (Geelong game aside) i think that we have some good signs coming through. Our tenacity at the footy has been pretty good most of the time, however there is no doubt that it needs to be more consistent. I think our kids have been pretty good. I loved Riewoldts celebration with Jackson after that goal...the kid gives a $hit. We finally have a geniune clearance midfielder in Foley, Thursfield will be very good, Polo gives us some hardness at the ball and the player and Deledio, Edwards and Tmalbing will all be very good players (although Tambo does need to learn defensive pressure).

We could very easily be 5-4 - we are not as bad as our record shows.

Like the dons last year except they are putting possibly the oldest most experienced team on the field in the competition and we are putting the youngest, least experienced team on the field

I don't disagree TOO. We do have too many passengers and unfortunately they are not all the older players. What I will say though is we are beginning to uncover some gems. Maybe not enough to feel 100% comfortable about the future but certainly enough to start to feel optimistic. The young players on our list are 1000% on what they were in 2004 and that is where the improvement will come.

We must be better than 2004 from this perspective alone. There is a future here, there wasn't back then.

Geelong are on fire right now. We're not the only ones being pantsed by them. The power where shocking on their own cow dung paddock yesterday.

agreed, lids showed hes starting to play to his potential(almost judd like perormance) patto starting to get his hands on the ball(not a #1 ruck option though) thursfeild did a good job on lloyd ,polack is seettling down at chb nicely and even jack showed he has the hunger and attitude to play at this level (i know it was only one game but gee if he could have only hung onto that mark in the first term!!) there is a bright future there i think? :clap

Whilst I did not expect to 0-9 and hate being winless, I can see improvement in the way we go about it.

The thing for me over the last few weeks is that despite some close loses we are now a better side to watch than we were 3-4 years ago. When we run the ball we are far more exciting to watch.
The guys like Lids, Foley, Polak, Thirsty and co all have a lot to offer and we will be better for it in the long run.

Unfortunately this year is a year have to have. It has been long over due, but I don't mind while we are playing the kids. Some of them may not be upto it as many have said, but at least we are going to find out sooner rather than later, which is something that hasn't happened in the past.
