Are we that thin on the ground??

The problem you have here Maverick is that the players you mention will all be older than 26.

How about the nucleus being from Deledio, Polo, Polak (yet to be judged), Raines, *smile* just to name one or two, pretty fair contributors. Lids should and could be a future captain.

Not sure if I understand what your saying graystar, but I agree that Deledio, Polo, Tambling, Raines etc will be the nucleus of Richmond's next decent side.

My issue is the timing. When these kids get old enough to be a nucleus of the team ie say aged 23+, we will have lost Richo, Brown, Bowden, Johnson and our senior players at that time (3-4 years) ie Hyde, P.Bowden wont be good enough to help this young nucleus of players be a premiership contender.

Players are in there prime from 25-28 and that means we have to wait another 6+ years for the group you mention to get there...and they can be the A graders supported by good kids underneath them...that's a long time away though.

Now many will say that trading to get A grade players of this age is a priority. However I dont think you can trade for an A grade ready made player without giving up way too much in return ie high draft picks.

I just think we had a golden opportunity and we may have let it slip. However if we draft well over the next few years though anything could happen.

Was not trying to be smart or clever Mav. I think I misread your post, and BTW, I agree with you.

Hey guys,

I didn't write us off for the eight.

I just made the points that:
1. Any current chance at the eight would be dependent on the fitness of our twilight players.
2. That there would be a gap between our twilight group and the next group currently 22yo or less.

Tannerztigers understood me immediately, and Terry Wallace has said much the same thing in his statement this week.

Personally, I reckon everyone is jumping up & down prematurely. It's going to be a long season & I'd prefer us to progress slowly but steadily through the year & not be spent by July.

At the moment, few rate us, I'd like to begin the season with a few opponents with their guards down.
