Danny,

Last year, there were clearly problems with confidence and style of play. Out of defence -- not enough clear possession or movement of the ball to provide clear possession. Into attack -- confused leads, poor passing to leads, not enough movement off the ball providing opportunities. Skills on the slow side. Pace on the slow side. Obviously, some things needed to change. I appreciate that one game in the pre-season competition isn't much to go on, but still . . . nothing appears to have changed. Are you able to give a bit of an insight to how our problem areas are being addressed?

Regards,

Steve McNamara

Steve,

"All our focus has been Round 1. I think that when we get our full complement of midfielders together, as in the quick ball movement, with Wayne Campbell, Justin Blumfield, Kane Johnson, Dave Rodan and Andy Krakouer -- all in there together -- you'll see a good conduit between defence and our forward line. I think that's an area where we all know we've had to improve. We haven't had the personnel out there, but over the next three weeks leading into Round 1, we will have that. So that, to me, will look after itself."

Regards,

Danny

Danny,

It's been a while now, but do you think 'Richo', and I guess the forward structure in general, are missing 'The Duck'? By that, I mean are we missing a small/medium forward who is specifically a goalkicker -- and is there someone you have earmarked for a role like this?

Regards,

Jason

Jason,

"We've got a few players in that area who could help us -- the likes of Kayne Pettifer, Justin Blumfield, Joel Bowden and Tim Fleming (ex-Carlton), who's got a lot of speed. Players know that's an area where we've got a void, so we've just got to make sure that we fill it."

Regards,

Danny

Danny,

I would like to know who do you think will be the most improved player at the Club judging by the pre-season training? And, I reckon that Chaffey is our most gutsy player in the team, with Duncan, Andy Kellaway and Rory Hilton. What do you think of that?

Regards,

Jake Banks

Jake,

"Yeah, I believe those players epitomise the way we want all our players to play. I think you could also throw Greg Stafford, Ben Holland, Darren Gaspar, Mark Coughlan, Kane Johnson, Andy Krakouer, Dave Rodan into that bracket. Our most improved player, in terms of pre-season form, would probably be Kayne Pettifer. But we have a number of other youngsters hopefully on the improve as well, like Andy Krakouer, Aaron Fiora, etc."

Regards,

Danny,

Danny,

'Richo' is a great player, but why don't you try him on the ball more often. This will use him effectively, making him run after the ball. He has great speed for his size and it free him up from always having two players on him where he then finds it difficult to outplay and he obviously gets disheartened by the unclean possessions he attains. On the ball will keep him active and he seems to play better when he does not have to think about what he is doing and just does it naturally with great results. You're doing well, Danny. Have a great year and all the success for the Tigers in 2003.

Regards,

Cameron

Cameron,

"Richo is our best bet up forward -- he proved that again in the last six games last year when he kicked 20-plus goals and flew home to finish second in our Best and Fairest. He is a proven matchwinner up forward and that's where he's best suited to the team as far as we're concerned.

Regards,

Danny

I like his style. Come and join our site Jake. ;D

I wonder if Damnfine has any objections to Zantuck missing out on a mention there??
Perhaps the rumours are close to the mark(ie Zantuck being a little too cocky)and Danny doesn't want to give him a public ego boost.
