The assistant coaches contracts expire today. A bit of talk on the radio that Blake Caracella is yet to resign.

I can't believe that the club haven't made an offer so maybe he has been holding off due to offers elsewhere?

Caro on TF said Gale was confident Caracella would sign and hopeful Leppitch and Rutten will. They are obviously all looking to get paid and the club is quite rightly prioritising Caracella. Caro also said Hardwick took less than he could of to keep them together - hope it was enough.

Can't see the assistants abandoning a premiership club.
Could happen but why would they want to go anywhere else for the time-being?

Their contracts definitely DO NOT expire today.

There is an unwritten rule that says that clubs should advise their assistants if they have a job moving into next year by Aug 1

Could someone please explain the soft cap? My understanding is that it's like a tax, so clubs with big football departments have to pay this "tax" on every $ they spend over the soft cap.

With 100,000 members and huge merchandise sales I can't see why we wouldn't have the capacity to exceed the soft cap and pay our coaches whatever is necessary to keep them.

Your summation is correct how I understand it

Whatever. We just cannot let our assistant coaches go to other clubs.

In particular, Blake Caracella, who I think, without any knowledge, is the real architect behind our successes.

Please Tigers, Lock them away.

That's how I understand it also however the penalty is very high, from memory it was in the range of 30-40 X the amount you go over, essentially meaning no one will go over... Can anyone confirm penalty?

I think the penalty is you add the number of club members with the average age of your playing list then multiply by the circumference of the sun divided y the number of intelligent Collingwood supporters once you arrive at that figure they pull a number out of a hat and the fines could range anywhere from small to double extra large.

Thought it was about 75% so if you spend 1 mill over the cap then the AFL will charge you an extra 750,000 in cap tax.

What makes you think the club hasn’t made an offer , I’d suggest more like he hasnt signed it with rival options to consider

My tip is Caracalla will end up back at Brisbane (in a coaching capacity) at some point in the not too distant future. Fagan is their temporary coaching solution and I wouldn’t mind betting Caracalla is the man they want long term. Perhaps he heads up at some point as an assistant and the reigns are transitioned to him.

Contracts expire today.

Hope we get these done.

Important.

Clubs are supposed to inform assistants of whether they'll be kept or flicked at the end of the year, but their contracts don't actually expire today.

If we lose Caracella, move Leppa into that strategy role and get Sam Mitchell as a line coach.

I don't think strategy is Leppa's strong suit. He is a great instructional coach.

If we lose Caracella, we could do worse than nabbing Sam Mitchell from West Coast who wants to return to Melbourne by all reports. Very astute footy brain Mitchell. Will be a premiership coach one day.
