At the risk of starting another thread about another club's delistings, it's now confirmed on AFL.com that Essendon have delisted Austin Lucy. Seems a but harsh given that he is a young KPP drafted last year who has been given 1 year to prove himself. Normally takes longer than that for a KPP. He must have done something wrong to upset Sheeds.

He's a key defender who was AA U18 last year playing for QLD. Well built for his age and from memory turned in some decent draft camp results. I believe disposal is his weakness. Being a young key defender, any interest in PSD or rookie draft?
 
That's rather harsh, delisting a guy after only drafting him the end of last year! Poor bugger, must've done something to annoy someone, I'd say.

Or perhaps Essendon are planning to do the whole rookie-list switcheroo deal.

I knew Sheedy had to do something to clean out his list of duds and begin again...but I never thought he'd start with a first year player...bizarre. :-\
 
All the clubs are coming under pressure to delist enough players to take 5 or 6 picks in the draft so there might be a couple more of these. It is very harsh to delist a kid after one season, esp as he has changed states etc.

Sheedy is under additional pressure to win a few more games as his next contract is not guaranteed. He will look to top up the s quad somewhere along the line with guys who are ready to play.

I mean it would be hard having to go from Bris Vegas to Mexico ( Vic ) and actually live.

Add on that and to actually work with the Bummers.

Its all making sense.
 
Was Lucy just a rookie pick? I thought players had to be kept for two years not one.
 
Lucy was rated mid draft i think but had height, agility, pace and size.

I think there may have been a slight doubt on his footskills i dont know, but stiff to get the arse possibly but there may be more to it.

Phantom - Evo - Reddog any more on him that may help shed some light on this kid.

Maybe the bombers will look to rookie him and open a spot on their list.

Realistically we could do the same with Moore and Limbach.

Said he was dud at the time.Pretty sure Red did too.

Some on other sites inexplicably rated him a top 20 last year.

Ordinary footballer not suprised he was culled.
 
Re the minimum two year deal for draftees: Apparently that guarantees you get paid for two years only. So all this nonsense about having to keep those taken in the draft for two years is now exactly that - nonsense.
 
17yo's get two years minimum. 18yos can be delisted after one.

Lucy had reasonably a promising carnival in 04 when ineligible, IMO. Showed dash and some athleticism. Much hated by the students on PRE. Can't kick.

Redford put an even bigger slow on him than evo.

Went backwards in 05. Dadoro took him which was pretty much the end of the story for Austin.
 
Yep. Lucy was pretty close to the worst player ever picked in an A-A U18 team.

I'd be surprised if they didn't delist Merv Neagle's son too.

I've never seen you so harsh there Phant! Especially on a youngster.
