When Wallace arrived to coach Richmond at the end of 2004 he delisted a total of 9 players, traded two and two retired, turning over a quarter of a very ordinary list. The delistings made were trumpeted as giving our then youngsters more senior opportunities in 2005.
The Tigers delisted after the bottom-place finish in 2004 were Justin Blumfield, Simon Fletcher, Adam Houlihan, Ben Marsh, Bill Nicholls, Marc Dragicevic, Tim Fleming, Zantuck and Luke Weller.
Brad Ottens and Aaron Fiora were traded to Geelong and St Kilda respectively while Matthew Rogers and Duncan Kellaway retired.
We have subsequently said goodbye to other superstars such as Morrison, Roach, Hilton, Graham, Bowden, Chris Hyde, Casserly, Meyer, Cartledge, Howat Peterson, Collard, Clingan, Archibald, Hall, Krakouer, Rodan.
And retired a few more in Stafford, Tivendale, Chaffey, Gaspar, Hyde, Andrew Kellaway, Campbell ect.
Our new coach will be again making significant changes to our current list. We are obviously a lot younger than we were when Wallet arrived, yet I would expect a minimum of at least 8 changes to the list for next year.
The draft for the end of the year is supposedly not as strong due to the younger players being taken last draft.
Questions -
What will be our delistings at the end of 2009?
What will be our 'retirements'?
Is it worth our while to try to organise a trade for extra draft selections this year? Who is tradable?
Much of what will happen at trade/delisting time 2009 will be up to our new coach
Who will he be? What will be his strategy?
