A good win but how good?
As much as I thought we were fantastic in the first half last night, the Bears were the polar opposite.
To put it bluntly they were pathetic and despite being undermanned it almost begs the question whether they tanked.

I don't think I've seen a more inept performance by a team(including us) in half a game all season.

Their skills levels were calamatous & they were unaccountable all over the ground.
I haven't seen our players get anything like the space we were afforded last night all year.
Little wonder our skills were outstanding. The first half resembled a training drill.

That's why I'm personally not getting too carried away with the performance. It's hard to gauge how good we actually were. Also given that our season is basically over, perhaps the Tigers through caution into the wind because the pressure was off. The last three weeks when the heat has been on, we've failed to meet the challenge.
In light of this weekends results and the fact that we still have a flicker of hope regarding finals, I think we'll have a far clearer indication of whether we are improving over the next fortnight.

It summed up the Bears night when three defenders collided in a simple marking contest to spoil each other. :rofl

Again as big a win as it was I'm keeping a lid on it as the Lions simply sucked.

How the mighty have fallen.

Bears werent good, no denying that. A massive injury list and losing Keating early didnt help their cause. Their play-makers were held when it counted, and they had no way of stopping Bowden a a free man in the backline. They had 10 players with under 25 games under their belt (I believe we have 8), but I think it underlines that with alot of youngsters in the side and little leadership (experience) on the ground, that you are going to these sort of performances.

Richmond lost by 100 points plus 3 times this year. Were we tanking? I think it is very harsh to consider that teams are tanking on te ground. Players playing for their careers.

Brisbane is certainly a ghost of its former self, but that's footy, it comes in cycles and Brisbane have ad their time, and now need to build for the next generation.

I wouldnt take anything away from the Tigers performance today. It was a great win, and showed the talent of the future, and shows that we have the game when we apply ourselves to perform an attacking fast-running style of game. Doubt whether anyone would be geting ahead of themselves after one game, we are 9-10 for the season, but I like what I see.

I agree GoodOne and I enjoyed the win despite the ease of victory.
Probably the most pleasing aspect aside from the continued improvement of the youngsters, is the free flowing style we adopted.

However I would hope that a few late wins in the last few games of the year and yet another likely finish outside the eight won't detract from the fact that there are still glaring deficiences in our side that need addressing. I'm sure TW realises this by now too.
The Bears are hardly a benchmark of whether we've improved, they looked like wooden spooners rather than a 3 time premiership side last night.

Both terrific posts guys!! I agree im not taking much out of last night and im just enjoying it for what it was! THe lions were absolutely pathetic and wouldve been better off not getting off the plane! THey can consider themselves lucky they werent playin a Crows out fit etc cause it couldve EASILY been 150points.

I'm sorry ToO, I like your stuff generally, but I think your 'tanking' comment is way over the top.   Inept whilst being heavily undermanned, perhaps................ make Brown, Voss, Akermanis, Lappin, Hadley, McDonald (both), Rischitelli, Drummond, Charman and a few up-n-comers available and it would have been a different first half - even with all our blokes available.

Surely you've played, and if so, you know when you go over the line you're competitive.  I actually think it is very difficult to 'tank', and if you do you risk serious injury, more so than if you go flat out.

I recall a few inept performances from the yellow and black in the past seven years (at least ;)).

The Lions are perhaps a year behind Tigers in rebuilding and were woefully undermanned this weekend - that's about it really.  That we didn't go on to record a 100point win was the biggest question mark from the game?!

Nope I think the tanking stuff is *smile* which implies that you are sore TOO because they were better at it than us? ;D

Their injury list is the worst in the league by a country mile. Add the fact that they have a number of players approaching retirement this year and quite frankly I thing they were in the same position as we were against Sydney facing difficulty fielding a competitive and well structured side.

Don't think there is anything more in it than that. For RFC its good for the kids to see what it takes to really destroy opposition. Though I wouldn't think that Wallace wouldn't be happy that Brisbane outscored us in the second half.

I wonder if a similar rant was on the fansites of the opposing clubs when we were smacked by over a hundred points three times this season.

Yeah Pharace as I said it almost begs the question. ;)
I agree with you & find it hard to believe a side can tank it on the park, but gee if ever a side looked like they were trying to it was the Bears last night.
God they were awful.

I think it's only a remote possibility when a side has no option of making the finals.

It was soooo good to be able to relax and enjoy the game for once, knowing it was practically in the bag. I'd forgotten what it was like.

Personally I took very little out of last nights victory. There are very fews sides in the AFL could couldn't have demolished Brisbane last night - their injuries, retirements and the absence Jason Akermanis have certainly taken a toll. It's actually quite incredible, I can still so vividly remember that all conquering team of only a couple of years back. That said I also have a vivid memory of how Richmond had performed during the previous month etc. We are still the same team that were butchered only a short few weeks ago by over 100 points, and the softness and structural weaknesses haven't gone away. Again when Chaffey, Krakouer, Stafford, Hall etc start looking like world beaters, and Patrick Bowden has 17 possesions in an opening quarter... well you know there is something wrong here. The glowing successful future that some have already penciled in for the team is still long way off.

It was interesting seeing the Lions guys warm up just before the start of the game last night. I mentioned to a few friends that they just didnt look switched on and I took a close look at the way Mal Michael warmed up last night - to me it looked like he is just not interested and funnily enough that is the way he played the whole game. Take nothing away from the Tiges though, they did what they had to do. Was disappointed in the last quarter but overall was very satisfied with the win.

Now in these last few games we get to play against Essendon and Carlton - I want us to absolutely smash these teams to bits - much more than we did last night and go into next season on a high!!!!!
