Does anybody know why the players don't run through the banner now? It's left in tact other than a bit of fraying that happens at the bottom where they lift it to run under.

The cheer squad then gather it up into a big bundle to take it off. I wonder if they recycle the banners or if there's another reason.

On the topic of banners congrats to the Sydney cheer squad for devoting an entire side of their banner to send a get well wish to Sophie Delezio.

Yes, I noticed that too Rosy, it was a wonderful gesture.

I think banners should stay at the games but it seems like such a waste of $$$ and time when they cost like 500 and they're not run through. Also half the time they do run through them players duck under them. Maybe small banners would be better?

A great thread and very important issue IMO.

Probably of no importance at all but I am interested and thought there might be some cheer squad people here who can tell me.

It is actually an important issue - one of the great traditions of our game - before we know it they may be running through streamers like in rugby league. I reckon the players are getting soft unless they're making the banners out of black and yellow concrete.

If that kid followed AFL and had a favourite team how good would it be to see her sitting on the shoulders of her favourite player. What a courageous little girl she is. Just rotten terrible luck.

Wonder if they keep a record of the banners?
They are certainly more sophisticated than when KB ran through his 400th.

Cheer squad usually takes photos so they may have a record or try this website

TM and I held up the banner at the brisbane game and if I look closely enough, I can just pick us out :hihi Apparantly the cheer squad ask the players not to kick the footys, or run through the pictures as they use them again

they should have a banner with a door or window on it. make then all run through it, and if your superstitious, you run through the door
