Barlett Wants Sheedy - SEN (Merged)

my advice to the RFC:

1. follow the process. don't deviate from what is in place. (this is most important)
2. be open-minded. look at all candidates and use the process in place.
3. forget about emotion. don't let emotion sway us in deviating from the process & making the decision of who should be our next coach.

oh forgot to add; whether our choice Buckley, Hardwick, Malthouse, Rawlings, or even Sheedy, just ensure it is the right decision for the RFC.

The issue with having Sheedy for only a couple of years with an obvious successor under him is that what if he performs above & beyond as a coach (finals) during his period... will he gladly hand over the reigns at the end of his tenure if he is doing a great job or will he want to continue?

Also, if he were to hand over the job to his replacement after a successful period, would supporters be happy with tinkering with a winning combination?

If he's doing a great job it will be the first time in 25 years anyone has. If this is the issue we'd have then so be it.

That's fine from a supporter point of view, but what if the coach in waiting was promised that he would have the job after a certain period but Sheedy was reluctant to hand it over?

A nice problem to have but putting myself in the shoes of the assistant, I would not be impressed. Nor would it be a good look for the club.

In the word's of John MacEnroe................."YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS!!!!!!"

We finally make finals or top 4 and then want to remove him?

so give him 3 yrs put a proviso in if he makes finals in his third season he will get a one yr extension. let the assistants know it could be 3 or 4 yrs before they get the gig. sooner if sheeds fails and longer if he still has the midas touch. just say it as it is.
what prospective coach wouldnt want served under sheedy on his resume.

Am enjoying this dicussion.............there is so much more to scratch through ;) Imagine even considering an apology over averaging 14 wins per year over 27 years :hihi Point beautifully made Kev!

I'd take Sheedy in a blink If he came with Hird as his main assistant with a view to a transition ;)

Agree 100% :clap

Have you been speaking to March and co?

March, Cameron and Wright have all stressed the importance of all of those points.

I wouldn't worry. We will get the process right, the decision on the other hand won't be known for at least two or three years later. :hihi

Sheedy sells one thing that no other candidate can - HOPE.

What would a young coach offer - process, process process a mechanical process without heart or soul, is that what we want? a sterile mechanical robotic coach that is so process driven that wether he coaches the Tigers or Blues or Pies it does not matter as long as he follows a process pfft what a load of NEW AGE crap.

Get some heart and soul back into the Tigers - GET SHEEDY!

I agree.
The other coaches and ones we've had have never had that love of the RFC.

Get Sheeds as senior coach back to Tigerland now!

The Richmond coaching job is the most difficult one in the league.

I doubt a young coach , no matter who that is, whether a Hardwick, Buckley would be able to handle -

1. The pressure of the job
2. The media
3. the scrutiny
4. the fans( who have waited patiently and seen only 2 finals in 27 years )

I have always said and i will stick by it, the coach of the RFC has to be an experienced one. One who has tasted success as a player, assistant and coach.

Malthouse is off the radar.

Sheeds would be MY most logical choice.

Sheeds record speaks for itself. He would install belief, character, respect and an optimism without the Wallace spin.

In my eyes age has nothing to do with it , if -

1. he still has the passion to coach
2. believes he can change the culture
3. if the person's health is fine
4. strong belief in oneself

Lets go through the process, lets talk to him.

NOTHING VENTURED NOTHING GAINED.

Sheedy for me.

Im with you tigertime2! I do not want a young coach just because people think you have to have one. Sheeds would be great for our culture and would not stand for the rot of the past 5 how many years. A strong assistant that could learn from Sheeds would be great - someone that we could hand the reins over to in a few years but one that is patient and could live with Sheeds staying on if he was on a ride to success.

I see nothing wrong with looking at Sheeds, he is everything we wanted - an ex Tiger, a hard nut with an eye for talent and a passion for winning and more importantly, one that can change the culture of our proud club. He ticks all of my boxes. Let's hope the board are not forced into choosing a young coach just because they think they should. I would love either Sheeds or Malthouse as our next coach.

Gary March, nip this in the bud today!!!!!!!!

in the week that you have sold our soul interstate, do us all a favour Gary and nip this in the bud... come out today and say "sheedy will not be coaching richmond." do not let the momentum take hold!!!!

Re: Gary March, nip this in the bud today!!!!!!!!

At the very very least, adhere to the bleedin process. No knee jerk decisions. No being dictated to by former greats (emphasis on former).

Re: Gary March, nip this in the bud today!!!!!!!!

He is treated like anybody else, if Sheeds is desperate to coach us then he can apply and go through the process like everyone else.

The club will interview all interested candidates and go through their process. Sheedy will be one of many interviewed. If, at the end, Sheedy is the standout then as supporters we should be content.

If we appoint someone without doing our due dilligence then we will not move forward as a club. I truly beleive that the culture is starting to change at Tigerland for the better. Past players and supporters are an emotive bunch, let the club appoint the best candidate.

I am not sure what you all think but Sheedy throwing his hat in the ring is a benefit for us.
