Exposure Jack.
The AFL is more interested its product is presented to the soccer mums than it is justice.

I hate em.

your bottom line is probably right it deserves a decent suspension. but on the rest jack is 100% right. we introduced two extra umpires to the game to do something about just this thing scragging shepherding of the ball. its not just forwards either chris judd a brownlow medallist recently dished out some rough justice in frustration how quick we forget. did you stop to think that perhaps hall was being scragged out of the game. if the umps dont do their job the players will take it into their own hands after all its halls livlihood going down the gurgler. i dont go to the footy to see weak as *smile* average players take talented skillful players out of the game illegally i go to see the real players take on and beat their opponents.

so many players get away with this tactic along with cheap shots which is even worse. a little elbow here a little jumper punch there a knee in the leg they do it knowing there will be no retribution its weak as *smile* because you just know the types that regularly do it are the biggest squealers and wouldnt have the balls to try it away from the footy field. i reckon we are all missing the real point that needs to be made scragging and illegal tacticts need to be policed properly after all the only real means for dealing with the problem has been taken away from the players. look what happens when players are forced take the law into their own hands.

Sorry don't agree claw. Cameras are everywhere today, there is no real opportunity to do what you say backmen are doing. On top of it the rules have changed significantly to the detriment of the backmen's capabilities in terms of scragging. In fact I would say right now the whole task of a backman has become ridiculously diffiicult. Are we getting to the stage where we should have a backman hold up their arm like they do in netball?

Look what happens when players are forced to take the law into their own hands? Are you serious? It's a total lack of control, this isn't a problem of the backmen it's a personal problem of Hall. He has now overtaken Rhys-Jones as the player suspended for most games. What does that tell you?

The whole contact situation has got to a stage where interpretation has become such a big factor that everyone gets frustrated, players, coaches, spectators. I certainly don't whack the supporter sitting next to me because of it (as much as I'd like to).

................Ricky McLean, Ted Whitten, Neil Balme, Brereton, Carey and Lockett are a few that come to mind that had the rep. as liking to intimidate with aggression and the odd Knuckle, and I have no reason to believe that if confronted with Today's rules, they wouldn't have hesitated to act in the same manner as Hall did.

Would you say that is a fair assumption ?

No actually I don't think many if any of those players would king hit someone. Most of those guys would have faced the guy and give him the opportunity to deend himself before whacking them to the ground. Maybe Hall belongs in the 70s, when the fights were more spectacular than the footy. I like to think we've moved on from there. Anyway discussed this enough, he's received his pennance, 7 weeks, probably a couple of weeks light in my book, but hopefully he comes back stronger from the experience.

The absolute hysteria this incident has caused is unbelievable.

Lead newstory, professor's being interviewed, his Mother whining on every news and radio show in the Country..........

Give me a break.............. It's a game of Footy, where a bloke gets whacked, and this Country's Media are making it out to be the Biggest Story of all-time and everybody just accepts it.

Sorry, sorry state of affairs..............

Happens every week around the Country, I guarantee it, yet for some reason this is being afforded front page headlines.

I'll say it again...............

150 Years, played in that time by how many Millions of people, number of Deaths or injuries that have caused permanent or debilatating loss of life....................Miniscule to say the Least people.

Never, has there been a loss of life in the AFL/VFL/VFA due to a football incident that I'm aware of.

Put this into perspective and get back into the real world.................

I'm embarrassed to call myself Australian after hearing and watching the coverage this is getting...........

What happened to us to make us so timid and soft......................very sad.

that`s a bit hysterical too isn`t it?

embarrassed to be an australian just because you think this incident is getting to much media attention.

hes not talking just about this incident. its the way we have become as a society. controlled by political correctness we have become soft and precious it really is a joke.

And for the record Barry Hall never rang Brent Staker and spoke to him. No such phone call was ever made, Staker even checked with team officials, coaches and other players to see if he had missed the call.

This makes interesting thinking considering the tribunal was strongly advised to consider a %25 reduction considering Baz pleaded guilty and had mad a sincere apology. So does that mean it was 10 weeks and he got seven weeks for the perception of his apology?

Only the AFL could make a convoluted case out of something so cut and dry.

Hey Mops, it's obvious you don't appreciate any of the same opinions as myself, I get it and aren't concerned in the least, so you don't need to follow me around here and make a opposite comment regardless of if you believe it or not, let it go Man, I won't bother you again, plus I don't like to waste my time, so it's all cool.

I haven't forgot about your comments regarding Geelong last year, you were dead wrong and you still never had the Balls to own up, instead you bagged them more and came up with every excuse known to Man, even after they proved beyond doubt they were the elite team.
You even commented on how hard it was to live down here because of the supporter's (Laughing)............have a look around Mate, I don't see any more less Homerism here, do you ???

If you think last year was a pain, I hope your preparing yourself earlier this year, because the word I hear on the streets is that the "Puddies" are a pretty sure bet again this Year...............Wanna back against ?

Owwww, that must sting like hell to hear that, being the Diehard , One-eyed Tiger that you are.

Oh well, that's life.................have yourself a nice life Mop's, a little less self-hatred might help by the way.

I've always felt priveledged and lucky to live in and be an Australian. I guess some haven't travelled too far and wide to understand relativity.

I wouldn't go questioning my love of being Australian Goody, that's a Bonus if you live O/S.............trust me.

In fact, the first thing people ask me now is, "How come you DON'T have an American accent" ?

Funny how I've been told by so many back here that the "Lucky Country" moniker that the Pollies love to throw around when referring to our Sunburnt Country, is no longer applicable in so many way's.

Hell, I live in a suburb of Geelong that has been in existence for probably 35 years, only to find out I can't get a Broadband connection !!!!!!!!!!
Are you kidding me ???? It's 2008 for cryin' out loud, NO BROADBAND, I feel like I'm in an episode of the Twilight Zone.

This Country is a great place, plenty to be thankful for, no doubt, but don't for a second think there aren't problems or you really have swallowed the hype that's dished out nowaday's.
