Does anyone know how old Bazza was when Sydney traded for him? He's been awesome for them and was really dominant in their win last night.
Shows there are treasures to be found amongst recycled players if you know where to look.

On the topic of traded players, good luck for tonight Jason. :clap :clap

Would hardly call Hall a recycled player in the true sense of meaning of that term. Lockett, Nathan Borown and players of that ilk are not strictly recycled player. Fleming and Nicholls were recycled players.

A good player that wanted out of St Kilda because of Thomas. Has simply improved with age under a superior coach and club.

I wasn't trying to be too technical. Recycled to me simply means from another club. I meant getting a good player from another club not necessarily one past their prime. It's a matter of finding the right one at the right price rather than waiting till they are on the scrap heap. Thankfully that's not my job.

Twenty-four.

Not sure he counts as a "recycled player" as he was on his way out and the Saints got a good deal for him in picks 13, 17, and 45 (according to an old AFL yearbook). 13 was Nick Dal Santo and 17 was James Kelly at Geelong, although I thought we originally had pick 17 and gave it up as part of the Stafford/Daffy deal.

Ok. We gave 17 to Sydney along with Nick Daffy for Greg Stafford. Sydney gave it along with 13 and 45 to St Kilda for Barry Hall. St Kilda gave it to Fremantle for Heath Black. Fremantle gave it to Melbourne for Jeff Farmer. Melbourne gave it and 41 to Geelong for Clint Bizzell.

And that clears that up nicely :fing32

He really wasnt a recycled player rosy. He wanted to leave stkilda. Im sure they would have loved to have kept him.

I explained what I meant by recycled player a couple of posts above iitb.

The fact he wanted to leave and they wanted to keep him is irrelevant to my opinion that there are good players to be found if the cards work out right, but you need to be a bit proactive for it to happen. I'd love us to find one in a similar position to what Bazza was.

Anyway Ready has filled me in on what I really wanted to know in starting this thread.

I’m with you Rosy, it takes at least 28 contributing players to win a premiership and you have to get them through any means necessary. The draft is the best place to get most of your talent but most premiership team have a couple of recycled players on them

Financial limitations aside, we almost had Fev for the price of JON, Miller disserves a lot of credit for being prepared to think enough outside the box.

he was always a gun

just had to deal with dud coaches when he started at the saints and told them to *smile* off

enter sydney where he has missed 5 games in a 100 odd under paul roos and he's going for back-to-back flags

dont compare him to bradshaw or kingsley

Ah, the year of the much travelled number 17 draft pick! Has one draft pick ever got so far around the country before? ;)

Was Brent Grgic part of that deal aswell?

Fair to say that the above deals must not have all come together in the last 20 minutes as has become the norm.

Are you thinking about Polak Rosy?

Not at all stu. I can't get into all this speculation stuff. I'll leave it to those in the know. If they can find someone as handy as Bazza I won't be complaining though.

When you talk about players you'd like fom other clubs, this guy would or should be close to the top of the list.
His workrate was phenominal on Friday and the finishing of his opportunities first class.

He's just matured so much as a footballer. Yes he always had talent but as a youngster at the Aints was seen to be more interested in punching heads than playing football and from memory was a very frustrating player.

Sydney and Paul Roos has harnessed that agression & turned him into a champion.

Superstar - did Richmond show any interest in him at the time? I have to say though that when he left the Saints I never thought he'd develop into the player he has. H e must have a lot of people eating humble pie these days.
