PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

One thing that really stands out to me is that we do not do the basic team footy things well. Some examples of this include:-

  • Talk - Sitting at close to fence level at some games this year, it is very noticeable that the players do not seem to talk much to each other. A
  • Support - I hardly ever notice richmond small forwards providing a shield to give the leading forward a small (but important) break from the defender. Our leading forwards always have their opponents sitting right on the shoulder on a lead.
  • Marking- I cant believe the number of times i have seen opposition defenders getting a fist to the ball when our players have tried to mark the ball on their chest. I was always taught to mark out in front? Against the Bulldogs, i saw Riewoldt and Morton have chest mark attempts spoiled a couple of times when they would have most likely marked it if they had tried to take them out in front.

To me, these are examples of the simple things that must come back into the team before any great progress can be made.
