Bedford and Davenport

I'd rather draft an untried 18/19 year old than a rookie listed guy who got cut and never made it.

Like guys initially overlooked on Hawthorns list like Gilham, Mitchell, Taylor, Young, Sewell etc skip.

Thats obviously not counting rejects like Guerra & Dew.

It takes all types, very foolish to prejudice recruits because of age & history ILO.

Agree, there are many players who were rookies or delisted by other clubs that went on to be good players elsewhere.

It's just a case of doing it smart.

There was a player who was a handy player at South Fremantle in 94 who was drafted by Fremantle and despite kicking two goals with his first two kicks was only selected to play 2 games in his first year and was then delisted because he was "too slow".

He worked his butt off to get resigned by another club and improve his game and was given another chance by North Melbourne and ended up becoming one of the champions of the game.

I'm sure people have heard of him, Peter Bell?

I'd be pretty happy if we were smart enough to pick up a player who would become as good as Peter Bell as a late round pick in the ND.

Apples and Oranges mate.

Gilham was the only guy to get delisted out of that bunch from memory, and Guerra and Dew have always been handy players and shown that they belong at AFL level.

Not sure what the point of your post is.

There is a player on our list who was cut off a rookie list due to being judged as not up to it, despite his player being a legend of the club he was delisted from. Shane Tuck.

Peter Bell, Carrazzo (Geelong) & Lovett Murray (Collingwood) were delisted and judged not up to it.

A young player running around now who I like, Jason Roe was cut from Collingwood and looks to be a good player of the future for Brisbane.

Love them or hate them Aaron Edwards, Cam Cloke and Brad Miller have all given decent service to clubs they have gone on to after being delisted and judged not up to AFL level.

It can be done, it's not easy, but it can be done.

I'd be happy to take 2 new recruits with picks 1 and 2 in the draft Hislop at 72 and Davenport in the psd.
But wtf do I know? :)

I reckon Essendon will redraft Hislop but if not it sounds good to me TD.
