Anyone who is going to the game fancy a liquid refreshment on Saturday afternoon ?

Think we went to the Victory Hotel in Edward Street last year. Has a TAB, and some screens to watch the footy on.

Just replied to your PM Eagle Farm.

Hopefully I'll see you before the match.
Tigersnake and MB will be there too I believe,so hopefully we can all meet up.
I'll be with 6 others and will be well oiled already I imagine >:D

on a similar note....those who arent going - where are people heading to watch the game?? and dont say the Wantirna club please lol!!!!  ::)

Hopefully a venue with no sharp objects on tables, and serve plastic pots.

We usually go to a pub near the ground for an hour or 2 before the bounce.  It used to be the Gabba hotel, great pub, they knocked it down a couple of years ago.  Then we moved to the Australian National, its being transformed into a yuppie chrome and glass monstrosity and I don't know if it will even be open.

I was thinking of the pub formerly known as the Station.  Has been transformed into Chrome and Glass monstrosity.  Its along Stanley St near the freeway overpass.  I haven't even noticed what they've changed the name to but I'll check and post it.

I'll also be at the post match.  It was very good last year, for obvious reasons.

Say it ain't so! :'(

What is it with iconic Brisbane pubs? Just look what they did to the Regatta...

If I'd been old enough in the early 80s I would most definitely have been going to see bands at the Aussie Nash, and it was still a great pub until recently.

Most certainly part of a shameful trend of "development" in Brisbane. Every time I talk to someone up there they mention somewhere or other with character or history has fallen under its spell. For shame.

there is this german pub/beer hall across the road from the ground when i was up there last year. i paid about $5 for a pint. good value of you ask me. then went onto easts leagues clubs to celebrate post game :beer

The name of that pub is the Chalk Hotel. Stanley St, Woolloongabba, 2 or 3 blocks from the ground

Yep Ready. That's what they do in Brisbane. Any building thats interesting and has history, bowl it over. The Gabba Hotel was a great, iconic pub. G.O.N.E

Boomerang Theatre, classic old picture theatre, owner knocked it down the day before it was due to be heritage listed. Brisbane has very few good old pubs, and the ones they have are popular, so the owners feel the need to totally renovate them in line the latest fleeting fashion. The Barracks, now the Hotel L.A., The Annerley Junction, Now 'The Muddy Farmer (Irish theme). The Station: Chalk, etc, etc, etc.

Another bad aspect is that the very few pubs that appreciate and trade on their history, The Regatta or the Brekkie Creek, attract the Rugby Union crowd, which you don't wanna be around.

The Pineapple Hotel on Main St is good. We will be there about 4 to have a couple of quiet ones b4 the game.

Go tigers

Just booked my hotel about 800m from the Gabba so I will wanda down at 3 and pop into each hotel along the way hopefully bumping into some PREers along the way :beer

You'd better pace yourself CC or you might flake before you get to the ground.  There can be a lot of pubs in 800 metres. ;D

I may just hire a scooter Rosy for such a long trip and if I remember correctly the Qld boys in blue are always good for a ride home :police: :hihi
