Ben Cousins (and the other tigers boys) Today vs Casey

i watched bits and pieces of the game and i thought cuz played very well... but i also thought coburg was too cousins consious. they looked for him too often over teammates who were in better positions.

wonder if they were told to...

I'm a bit confused about Cuz's fitness. Did he get injured or not. 3AW said leg injury but nobody's talking about it.

Ben does not deserve to walk straight into the side next week regardless whether we beat Sydney or not. Having said that it wouldn't surprise me if Terry Wallarse brings him back to fill up the MCG. It's one big marketing circus with Cousins.

it doesnt really matter how well he played for coburg all that matters is that he got game time, some match fitness which he has neway considering he wont play 100% of a game neway and got through uninjured.
he is a class act and if he is fit and on our list he is a walk up start in the ones. if he plans to bring him back to fill the "G" i think he will wait an extra week to bring him back anyway.

cotchin is in the same category minus the drugs ;)

i agree that the game plan of rawlings was poor.

Don't think wallace can be blamed for that though.
There were 14 senior list and one rookie players for Coburg today. They were dreadful. If there needed to be another example of Wallace's failures in development this was it.

This was the team

******* Sylvester (R) **********
Raines Thursfield King
Edwards Thomson Hislop
Connors Schulz Pettifer
Putt Vickery **********
Simmonds Cousins Cotchin

They were flogged by a true VFL side who showed more desire and skill, not to mention all the basics of the game.

Casey had Watts, Newton, Grimes, Cheney and Wonaeamirri from the Melbourne senior list and Hughes, McKenzie and Valenti from the rookie list.

With 6 of these playing Round 1 v Carlton (over 1/4 of the team)...it's a miracle we weren't smacked by 100+ on that forgettable night(mare).

Watched a bit of the Coburg game today and like the senior team, thought the game plan was very poor. Too much short kicking from poorly skilled players.

Observations: - Cousins looks ok, but his lack of pace is a major concern. Seems to be handballing too much whereas once he would have outrun and shrugged off his opponent.
- Connors needs to get fit and then learn to do the average things well. He should stop trying to make everything spectacular. Haven't given up on him - but he desperately needs a decent personal coach.
- Cotchin still looks short of a run. However the VFL standard (or Coburg standard) is so poor, I don't see the point keeping talented players down there.
- Ball use of every other RFC player was very poor. King's kicking is just a joke. Simmonds is looking like an older player on the way out. Schulz is the 00's version of Dan Foley. He looks like he should be a good AFL player, but just isn't.

He's too scared to do his hammy again....doesn't wanna burn off and hear a 'ping'....one more hammy and it's bye bye Mr Cousins

Agree T2011 re Chimp. Coburg have a buy next week anyway,

Dont agree re. ball use of every RFC player being poor. Edwards was actually the best he has produced all year. His kicking was very good.

Blueboy and Craig seem to have covered the player observations pretty well.
Was a fairly ordinary game from Coburg with a fun scuffle at three qtr time.
Watched Simmo walking the boundary during one of his rotations I reckon his knee is still giving him some niggle, just looked a bit creaky walking the line.
Cuz had icebags on both knees and one calf at the end of the game, looked happy enough to have got through the game and the ice would have been the start of rehab/recover.
If we go well against Sydney I wouldn't want to see any of the seniors dropped to make way, Cuz and Cotch may get elevated to the senior squad on talent but neither really ripped the game yesterday.

Cousins actually moved freely yesterday. There was one noted occasion where he had to sprint on a lead to mark the ball on the Western side wing... no issue... took the mark... left his opponent in his wake!

I also see that routine treatment post match... ice... has tongues wagging, but he was showing no signs of distress at all when he left the ground.

Cousins and Cotchin in particular both need match fitness next week.

It's pointless playing them for the reserves... might as well tell them to run laps at Punt Road. And telling two superstars who need match practice to just run laps for 2 weeks is pointless anyway.

Maybe it would it be best for them (and the team) to bring 'em straight back. With modern day rotations there is nothing wrong with having 2 players doing 60-70% game time. IN fact, it's the quality of these 'depth' players that wins you games. Nobody is saying they have to walk in and be the #1 and #2 midfielders. They can play a depth role and do it better than anyone else.

IN: Cousins, Cotchin
