Ben Nason Pick 71

Big difference between a top 10 pick and 44.
no theres not if you are worrying about everyone around you you are not taking who you think is best available at that pick.
it broke down with jon and it can break down at pick 44.

3rd rnd picks are valuable.

And a pick where we had people on the ground watching him over and over compared to making a decision based on a highlights reel

Some people will just never get it.

so you think Dea is not speculative and was worth taking earlier than planned based on rumour. oh geez stkilda might take him at 47 we better grab him now. please dont tell me that is a good way to operate.

in all likelyhood they probably overlooked taylor with this pick.if we had missed him would it have been worth listening to rumour.

imo your to close to the club mate. everything they do is right and anyone who asks a question about what they do has no idea.
i will continue to ask and pull apart everything they do until they show they have it right. one would hope the club does this itself.

taking a player early based on rumour is not the way to go about it but you disagree i might say you have no idea but wont.i actually think your pretty clued up.

all i can say is they must have rated him very highly to do this im looking forward to seeing him become a real player.

has anyone said we took him earlier than we planned bc we were worried someone else would draft him? i dont think they have.
the references to other teams have come in response to suggestions he would have lasted a lot later in the draft.

in fairness to this kid he looks like a footballer would have liked a tall here though. i think the real critique is.

nanson who does look a decent player and we used 71 on a speculative tall.

Make no mistake, this kid is like a Coughlan who can actually kick. My central districts mates not only knew of him, but also reckoned he has the tools and the body to play at afl level. From such a hard nuts club like the doggies, they train them well and have a great culture (albeit a few more beers than most of us).

I am wrapt we got this kid, rfc did a lot of homework on him.

Geez Phanto reckons he's better than Foley and now he's better than Cogs. Why dont we just draft all of Central's firsts - they must be awesome

(PS I concede they are at SANFL level)

No need to be condescending about it ???

Thats just my observation, i am happy to stand by it ;) Do you really want to bag/question a club like centrals ?

it is according to just about every football person who has been asked or offered comment
salary cap & $$$$ being the main reason I would assume

I thought that general consensus was that the VFL had surpassed the SANFL some time ago. It seems to me that many ex Vics head over for the dough once they realise that their AFL chances are over. The Sanfl is full of average ex Victorians who have become "very good players" in the SANFL.

But it is an extremely hard thing to measure.

I heard an interview a few back with one of the McGowan twins who has played in jus about all of the Centrals premierships in tha past 10 years. He is originally from Victoria. He was saying that in his opinion the SANFL was a slightly higher standard than the VFL, mainly because the players were slighly older & had bigger & harder bodies. Iho the VFL players were younger & not so physically developed.

He looks pretty quick from the highlight reel. If he's a Cogs type with better kick and speed, I'll mark him down for a Brownlow now ;D

Ill put him down for a 450 gamer beating Bartlett's long-standing record at the Tigers.

Give him the Number 12 now. Why wait 12 months for the inevitable ?

I spoke to someone in SA who described Ben Nason as a Tom Rocliff type player (freakish around goals)

Down side being he did go missing for sections of the game.

Yep, definitely one of mine.

This kid goes alright, sound choice at pick 71, can add that touch of zip and polish.

A wonderful user of the ball, hits the contest hard, and has super goal awareness.

But can't make the ones in the SANFL? If he's that good why didn't we look at their first 22?
