But I had a grandfather who was and uncle who is as one-eyed as they come, and they drilled a love for the Tigers in to me from about the age of 2. Paid for me to have a membership, sent me a jumper with an 8, 29, 4 on it, etc. etc. for many years. Subsequently, I have only ever seen the Tigers 'live' less than 10 times in over 30 years.
Back when Collins played for us, I was actually living in Indonesia. We were lucky to find out who won the grandfinal 2 months after it was played let alone hear anything about individual players.

I know it goes back a way, but I think the Ian Stewart for Billy Barrot deal was better. Stewart was the Judd of his day and had 2 Brownlows when he came to us. I think he had also played in the '66 Premiership, he went on to win one more Brownlow and play in 2 Premierships. Barrot was a great Richmond man, but I don't think he did much for Saints. Worst deal was without a doubt the Pitura one. One of the few mistakes GR made. I think that one sent us on the path of paying too much for players that just weren't worth it.nwonash said:Our best trade deal ever without a doubt was Jeff Hogg to Fitzroy for Paul Broderick, Michael Gale and I forget the third person.
Only if we could muster another deal like that
Some would say GM was involved then as well ;DTigers2011 said:What started our current spiral was losing Cloke, Raines and Wood following the 82 grand final debacle (should never have lost that game) and then recruiting Stewart, Walsh and other useless hacks that almost sent us broke.
Since that time, our recruiting has been shambolic - who could forget Richard Lounder. One bright spot was getting Broderick (fantastic player) and Michael Gale for a back injury riddled Jeff Hogg in 1994. This should have set us up for a good period from 1995 to at least 1999. But that's another story.

Barrot was an absolute champion for us and failed to deliver when playing at St Kilda. Many when the trade was done, alot of people questioned who got the better deal. However we definately got the better of that deal as Stewart went on to win a brownlow, while Barrot really struggled at St Kilda.
