Best N Fairest 2007 - Wednesday Sep 19th @ Crown

Being "that" close can only be appreciated from being "that close". Good on you Ridley, but not good enough. Foley will be better than Richo in terms of "performance" I have no doubt about that.

Generation Next, does NOT include the likes of Richo, Bowden, et al.

I have seen every game in 2007 bar 1 and there is no way Foley deserved to be pipped at the post.

Agree with that. Just don't think he would be as devastated as you seem to think he is. If he was that devastated it would indicate he would put individual glory above team glory. He doesn't strike me as that type. He'll be fine and will more than likely win his own Jack Dyer Medal down the track hopefully in an infinitely more successful side.

Don't disagree bevo and hopefully those appointments do come. It will be disappointing if they don't.
Yeah,it's always hopefullysuch and such gets done but there never seems to be much action.

It's the main reason i never go to these RFC functions.Nice sounding polemics, feel good speeches, give KB a clap, cheer Richo yet we drift ever on and the gap between the Collingwoods,Essendons Ports Weagles and us gets ever wider.

It's not a difficult task to employ or concept to get ones head around. We need to improve recruiting.

I am very happy to remove the term "devastated" Ridley in terms of point emphasis.

Congratulations Richo, it's clear you should have been previleged to more than this. Who knows, with the "stars" aligning back towards Punt Road, may be, just may be we will all get what we want in 2008.

Well done to all the players who polled so well in this very tough year 2007 !

It's no doubt the area that has had the most effect in creating this 25 year abyss. Unfortunately it won't improve until Miller is completely out of it. And Jackson wouldn't want too many repeats of the 2005 draft on his rap sheet.

The JD medal is becoming a joke. K.Johnson last year and Richo this year where Foley was miles ahead of anyone else. Who gives the votes - the drunk ferals in the cheer squad? How about the people who vote actually watch the games instead of giving sentimental votes.

What a novel idea for the match committee/coaches to watch the games. Wonder why they never thought of that. :blah

Absolutely. Foley not winning was a surprise, but the system is great. Five match committee members give votes on all 22 players, awarding votes from 0-5. It awards consistency, and those that follow team instructions.

Me too.

I can see the sentimental reasoning for giving the JD medal to Richo. He's never won it and it'll be a shame if he never does. Hope they can live with robbing Foley, who clearly deserved it.

Garbage.

its true

johnno over simmo last year was a joke and even though i love richo their is no way he had a better season than foley in 07, just because richo deserved to win in previous years doesnt make it right

the b&f isnt for the best player at the club anymore

i wonder if Richo would like to be hearing that some of his own are questioning the validity of his win....those knives have got a mind of their own it seems.

Spot on t80. and we wonder why we have a reputation for eating our own. ::)

I often read these forums but never put in my 2 cents but I cannot stand this any longer. I think everyone has forgotten about what the JD medal is about. Its about individual performance over a season, the stand out player of each game. i dont understand how the club could deny foley of this achievement. People may say that richo deserved it because for so many years he has come second and this time its only fair and he has put in so much over the years but the JD is NOT ABOUT THAT. Go over the stats go over the games. In the last game richo didnt even kick a goal and still polled 7 votes, how this happens i do not no. RFC should be ashamed.

Welcome to PRE r1234. :)

I can't agree the JD votes are for the stand out player each week. They reward consistency throughout the season. Goal kickers and fast running players tend to "stand out" but a team needs defenders and ruckmen and shut-down players too and the way the JD votes are awarded there's a chance for the coaches to rate each player in every game. They are partly rated for how well they follow instructions which is something none of us here would know about, and partly for how their opponent performs against them. I don't know how anyone can think they are better placed to know better than the match committee. Would appreciate a link to the votes per game if you can help out please.

Good first post.

Further proof - Tuck 3rd place :o and Johnson 9th :o

"Still I don't begrudge Richo the win." - sorry i dont know how to quote, in regards to this just because its richo doesnt mean he should have won and thats the reason i am getting so mad. the club cleary shows fav's and its way to obvious. people may say that foley should not be angry and be happy with getting second but i can tell you right now if anyone was in his position they would be shattered. foleys never been given anything easy. his worked so very hard to get to were he has this year. who even new his name last year? i thought the rfc may of seen this and seen his performance and agreed that he was the stand out player. once again he was pushed aside.
sorry i dont no where to get the votes round by round but i would also like to see them.

You're spot on Rosy.

Are critics incapable of understanding the scoring system for Jack?

The PRE votes reward only the best three, but what about the blokes that were 4th, 5th, 6th, 13th best? They do no better then someone that didn't even play.

Under the Jack system everyone's performance is assessed. Everyone gets a score out of 25. And because it is members of the match committee voting, they know the job they have been asked to do, and they can be assessed accordingly.

And don't forget, there was only one vote in it.
