Better off without Richo

i wonder given where we are at will richo be rested next week and a kid given a go in his place. or are they going to remain in denial.
if i was wallace i would be saying to him sorry bud your out next week rest up get right we want to play one of the kids in your place. that kid would be post. post riewoldt across hf and one of schulz or hughes at full forward.

if he is over his injury should he be 'rested'?
im guessing with post and hughes playing for coburg 2s they wont be in. prob for where they are obviously at its not in there long term interest to be played either.
*smile*?

Sorry to those who are hoping he is gone, but it looks like the big lug is in decent shape

I don't care if he missed a game and was "rested". The younger players including *smile* and Hughes have to step up to the plate, or they've gone at the end of the year. Put some "playing for your career pressure" on the younger players, Richo has nothing to fear on that score, he busts his guts week in week out, its time the younger players stood up and did likewise. Tell them to go out and bust their guts, if they make a mistake learn from it and move on, give it 110% surely it can only improve them as players and give them some self belief. Play them for a minimum of 3 games in a row to give them a chance, if they don't grab it, fine, move on to another younger player and go from there, but the young kids have to be told just go for it, you'll make mistakes okay, learn, move on and away you go, what you do is for the team not yourself etc etc.

The current crappy game, its pointless this chip kick, short pass handball fiddle around the backline then move it into the middle fiddle around some more, then chip kick it around the 50 metre arc, only to suddenly have a turnover and rebound pressure applied to the defence yet again.

Keep Richo on the wing and leave him around the midfield he should roam between CHF and CHB, the forwards do their bit, the defence likewise, Richo's big asset is his contested marking, hence the defence should be looking to kick long to him or one of the ruck's, which a small under either, to crumb it or tackle the opposition if they grab the ball and hold it up.

That said, it means the game plan has to significantly change to moving the ball as rapidly as possible into the forward 50 by kicking long and direct, to give the key marking forwards their chance, with a couple of smalls like Nahas and Edwards under them to crumb the ball.

It means the defenders stay within the defending zone they don't leave it, whilst the midfield is going to have to work a lot harder to get the ball and then deliver it properly. Are the players up to this sort of workload?? Big question, but other teams most notably Carlton have risen to the occasion, its time the young players at Richmond also got their games into gear.

Another point, Richo is not going to around forever, at most maybe 2 more years, depending on how his body copes and I happen to think he deserves to attain 300 plus games with the Tigers.

Yes obviously that's what I'm saying...

Geezus.

Why exactly do you think he's been moved to the wing? Perhaps the recognition that we need to develop a forward line without him, somewhat belatedly.

Again, champion that he is, he won't be around forever.

Well maybe Richo is a better player on the wing than the forward line. Does also play a good role when he drops back to help out in the backline..
Is it Richo's fault that he can play different positions..
Maybe we need players like Lloyd and Lucas... so we can develope wingman players. :P

Just had a quick look on finalsiren.com and found the following stats.

Since 2003 we have played 361 games, winning 155 (42.9%)
Richo has played 281 games, winning 116 (41.3%)
Richo has missed 80 games, of which we have won 39 (48.8%)

Since '02 (when some people argue we became too richo-centric), we have won 44 games out of 137 when Richo has played (32.1%). Without him, we have won 10 times out of 22 (45.5%)

Admittedly, these statistics are far from sophisticated. (i.e. they don't take into consideration the quality of opposition, margin, etc.) but I found them interesting nevertheless.

For the record, I think he is a gun, but don't think he has been used well.

I'm wondering if we are reading the Richo on/off thing a little incorrectly.

I heard from someone (haven't found the quote myself - so if anyone can reconfirm that would be great) that after the game JR said something along the lines of with Richo off the ground he knew he would have to lift to help us win.

Some here have been saying that getting Richo off the ground allows the players to play better. Maybe its more a case that when Richo is off the ground they HAVE to play better.

Everyone knows Richo can win the game off his own boot, and maybe some of the guys take that for granted (leading us to wonderful strategies like bombing it into Richo when he has 4 backmen against him). When he goes however, the midfield realize that they have to find alternate options, and the forwards realize they have to start presenting more leads.

I loved the fact that JR took it upon himself to go up the next notch, but I would have loved to have known that belief was there from the first siren.

Yep, why should it take that for Jack to lift a notch. He should have lifted a notch anyway. The coach now has to say to him this is now your new benchmark, next game I want you to exceed it no matter if richo is playing or not.

I heard Richo didn't train today.

If by 'lifting a notch' you mean getting more of the ball, it's not surprising. Our midfielders and flankers honour other players' leads a lot more when richo is not in the forward line. I guess their decision process is easier (kick it to the best option) :o.

How many times has Richo during his career been in doubt for the following week and right up to match day? Then plays a blinder..

Richo will play, and will be best on ground at the SCG..

This all gets back to the 'mental' thing/issue which came to light again last week.

Richo also said on one week at a time last night that sometimes you get prepared to play on one backman, and then you dont get that player and play on a lesser known, and then think I'm going to have a day out and get beaten, because you drop your intensity!

What is that all about? How much money are these guys on again? For how many hours per weekend (plus training... I know) do these guys have to 'switch' on.

This is part of the team problem, the Cats have only lost a handful of games over the last few years, the GF last year was a disaster, but they stay 'up' week in week out, often playing lesser knowns trying to knock them off every week.

Why do our guys have such a pathetic attitude.

These guys wouldn't last long where I work, just not good enough. You're a long time retired as a player, maximise every match/moment/contest...
