He made it sound that we are a crap side and because we made Melb play into our game in the 1st quarter, he said that "we can adjust ourselves and still beat them"  (read the Herald Sun article)
Whats the problem with that comment? Melbourne adjusted to Richmond's defensive gameplan in the first quarter, and beat them. I see no issue with that comment in the slightest.
What is your point?

Agree interested - we were well outpointed and played by the Dees last night and i for one didnt hear Daniher say we were a crap side - that is just a crap comment by a misinformed poster.

Daniher: We can perform better
15 July 2006   Herald-Sun

MELBOURNE coach Neale Daniher called on the Demons to take their game to a higher level, admitting he was disappointed in the brand of football they played in last night's 18-point win over Richmond.

In a scrappy affair, the Demons had the better of the Tigers after quarter-time to notch their sixth straight win, with forward Russell Robertson starring with four goals.

But Daniher was unhappy with the way the Demons won, conceding they had played well below their best.

``We had a win against a team that has been in pretty good form, but I'm disappointed with the brand of footy that we played,'' Daniher said.

``We had a big crowd in and we wanted to play a better brand of footy than we were able to play on the big stage.

``I thought we controlled long periods of the game, but I thought we let ourselves down.

``It was a good win against good opposition who have been in form, but we go away thinking we're better than that.

``We need to take our game to a higher level.''

Robertson was the clear standout for the Demons, dominating opponent Joel Bowden to finish the match with an impressive 15 marks, six of which were contested.

But many of the Demons stars were quiet, with captain David Neitz failing to kick a goal and key midfielders Cameron Bruce (14 disposals) and Travis Johnstone (13) having little impact.

``We had a lot of blokes that were down who are very good players and they'll bounce back next week,'' Daniher said.

``We had a solid win tonight with Cam Bruce and Travis Johnstone and David Neitz and Adem Yze, and probably not great games from Aaron Davey and Byron Pickett.''

Daniher admitted Richmond's heavy defensive play had an impact on the match, but was pleased the Demons could counter the tactics.

``What I take out of that is, `Ok, if that's what you are going to throw at us, we'll adjust and we'll beat you','' he said. ``It's good to play against different tactics. But we walk away and said we were smart enough to have a win and we think we can do it even better next time.''

If you are a real Richmond supporter, see if you can understand what this quote of Daniher's really means, along with his cocky comments on what TW said about Simmo last week, otherwise keep supporting and applauding other teams so they can keep showing how soft our supporters really are.

BTW, sorry Rosy for posting this on here.

I still think you're taking the comments completely out of context.
What Daniher is saying is 'We'll beat what you throw at us".
Cocky is certainly not the right word - but certainly confidence is. I'm happy he's able to have that confidence in his side.
I'm still unsure where you think he is having a go at Richmond? If anything he's complimenting Richmond in saying that their tactics had an influence on the result ???

footskills and turnovers killed both sides if wallace came out and said he was happy with our performance even if we had won i would have been pissed off. daniher was saying he was pissed of with the drop off of skill level and rightly so they have been much better this yr and under much tougher game conditions.

Personally I thought the game was a pretty good indication of where the Tigers are and where the Dees are. They've had a few more years to develop and they have a core of hard, experienced players with a few talented youngsters and some good older players. This what the Tigers are aiming to be and now they have some idea of how to get there and what they have to do to make it happen.
I didn't have an issue with Daniher's comments. He may have been having a shot, he may not have been. Most coaches do one way or another.

Think someone's being a bit hypersensitive about those comments. There's nothing in that, that another coach wouldn't have said when remarking on the days performance.

What was he supposed to say "Well they came and surprised us, and we didn't really know what to do, we were just lucky enough to ass a win?"

PLEASE!!

We lost, I'd much prefer we didn't but we did so we have to suck it up and wait for next time.

I must say, Neale Daniher is already starting to become the next cocky *smile* coach with his negative comments on our team and his thoughts last week about Simmo.

Agree TF, I heard the press conference and there was definitely a hint of scorn in his voice for our tactics. Daniher's an old hand and chose his words well; if taken literally he didn't say anything directly offensive, but his tone clearly implied the poor spectacle was due to our style. Not sure what he expects - maybe for the opposition to roll over so Melbourne can pull out the party tricks? Personally one of my least-liked coaches when things don't go his way.

Nothing wrong with what the Reverend Daniher said, he summed up very nicely precisely what happened on the night.
Far to many fragiles getting their noses out of joint because someone just once in a while calls a spade a spade.

Most of them are pretty unpleasant when they don't get their own way and TW is not immune to having a bit of a whinge in that situation.

AHHH YES FRIDAY NIGHT THE BIG STAGE....................

and the same result, with the same culprits going missing.

How could tiger fans be so surprised we put in such a pathetic, performance tonight.

Sadly its all too common.

We were just too damned defensive. If we'd played the positive attacking footy like we did the 2 weeks before at least we may have had a chance to get a result. Sure we stopped some of their playmakers but we had no one to make the play ourselves. Too defensive IMO
