Blair's Boys - 2012 Trade Week Targets

I'd bring in JW as a depth player, ruck and forward. Think of an upgraded Miller.

For list balance I think one of Wright and Darrou should be moved on.

If we could pull a Barry Hall style trade for Rance, we could plug a big chunk of our midfield problem.

whilst unplugging a huge hole in the backline.

Potential end of year trades i would look at:

Crowley (Hard bodied midfielder, hasnt signed a contract yet), Sam Blease (Real gamebreaker), Shannon Byrnes (free agent, good small forward), Brent Maloney (out of contract, hard bodied midfielder, would add some serious depth).

Have heard we are into Moloney...

Chaplin, Grimes, Astbury, Griffiths, Darrou with Dea, Moore and Batchelor able to play above their height if needed.

The point is KPD is perhaps the one area we can afford to lose a good player. I'd only do the trade if we got Chaplin.

Astbury and Griffiths are hardly proven and have struggled with injuries. Grimes has struggled with injuries and Chaplin will be 26 and won't be around forever. Can't afford to lose the one guy who plays week in week out.

My gut-feel is that, when all is said and done, we have little to trade to other clubs, besides draft picks, to gain a marquee player, forward or midfielder.

Even a first round draft pick would not be enough, if we so dared.

Yep it's a risk certainly, it would all depend on what we could get for him, and what we could get to cover his loss. Hypothetically I think Jack Steven, Sam Blease with Troy Chaplin would be worth the risk. Fair enough if you do not.

Mostly agree Phantom, but the go home factor is still an issue, especially for Suns players. If a player like Caddy wanted to come home it would be a matter of the best offer from a Melbourne club of his choosing getting the deal done. Obviously he was keen to become a Bomber, but with them unlikely to have a leftover high draft pick, we could probably trump their offer with our first round. Is he worth a top 10 draft pick?

he can't get a game at Melbourne - no thanks.
Moloney is a very good player who has had enough at melbourne. His heart is not in it any more.

He is probably too old for us at 29 but he is definitely good enough to slot into our midfield.

Not sure who fits the bill ,Pearce ? :-\ but apart from a few things we need , i reckon we could do with some outside class, silk, run

I wouldnt mind pearce at all.

Mitch Hallahan from Hawthorn?

Inside mid, decent size/weight, 184cm and 81kg. Hasn't come on at Hawthorn yet but was pick 38 in 2010 and I remember him being rated fairly highly.

Good to see more people getting on the Jesse White train.
Big Jesse kicked 6 on the weekend playing 2nd Ruck/Forward behind Seaby after his 10th week as an emergency.
Yes, the NEAFL is a crap competition but IMO he is easily the best mobile big man (with several AFL traits) playing in an AFL clubs system who can't get a game due to depth in the seniors (nit injuries). Would have played most games for almost every other AFL club if he was on their list. Sydney are just stacked with talls and KPP's.

Imagine we had a guy like him on the weekend to go to Petrie instead of McGuane. He is no world beater but he fills a need we desperately have.

Tall, Massive, Gorilla who is mobile and can play backup Ruck as well as play as forward monster to help Jack or as a defensive monster in those few occasions like yesterday where the opposition have a unique 200cm KPP.

If Maric goes down next year, Vickery goes into Ruck and Jesse plays deep or if TY's shoulder is not up to it Jesse plays Ruck himself. Great ready made coverage for Maric and Ty that will cost very little, maybe only a pick around 40 or a trade one of our younger HBF who we have a few of and Sydney may be looking to get because of the aging Malceski, Shaw, Mattner etc.
