Blair's Boys - 2012 Trade Week Targets

You still on the Cloke bandwagon?

Sure am Jimbob.
In my opinion Travis is the missing link ;D to our club taking the next step towards a flag.
'Kick it to Riewoldt' has an all to familiar ring to it at the moment. There are way too many eggs in that basket.
Vickery is out of action and we're playing the likes of Miller & McGuane in key roles. How is that working out??
Structurally I think he straightens us right up and gives our mids a genuine 2nd target.
We are getting the ball inside 50 as well as anyone but are failing to capitalise on it.

I do not believe he is a dud. Quite the opposite.
When on song he is arguably the most dominant power forward in the game.
No doubt in my mind that the Pies are not offering him what he is worth because they have tied up the likes of Pendles, Thomas and Swan on BIG contracts, so he's unhappy with the coin they've offered. Fair enough IMO and the contract negotiations are affecting his form.
A fresh start and he'll be back to his best.
If we can land him I'm all for it.

I'd be worried about the big chunk he would take up in the cap and the effect on signing up some of our up and comers in future years but your point is valid.

Imagine the Pies with Reiwoldt instead of Dawes.

Who are our up and coming stars?
Grimes, Vickery, Martin??
Who knows what will happen in the future and who will be worth the coin?

Whilst obviously we don't want to sell the house, I can't see how we cannot be well in the market for Travis's services.

Sounds good doesn't it.

That may not necessarily be the case. There are always third party deals. We are probably pre-paying contracts this year, there may be more scope to get creative in the 2012 Salary Cap over the next couple of months. The Veteran rules change for next year, Newman has already qualified, Jackson, Tuck and Foley qualify for the salary cap after 2013. McGuane's contract ends. Moore might retire. Some contracts can be rejigged to take advantage of this year's cap space. Cloke's contract doesn't have to be for the same money each year, they can plan it around Veteran's listing for others, Deledio becomes a vet after 2014, for example.

There are ways.

Sure does, cant believe people would not be interested in Cloke, our midfield is ready now not in 5 years time because we want to develop our own, what if they all fail for what ever reason. We heard about this war chest and this maybe potentailly a time open that baby up

Dont want to look back in 3-4 years and think geez so and so didnt come on or live up to his hype, wish we had chased Clarke and Cloke at the time.

People do realise Cotch and Dusty are out of contract next year? if there not signed up by this year its gonna be our distraction next year. I dont trust ralph carr aswell he looks like a shifty bastard

i don't think either would want to go anywhere..cotch is about to become captain and looks like a tiger for life....and i can't see us letting dusty go either...besides some clubs might be a little weary of his off field reputation.....

that said..cloke COULD be awesome..but i don't have faith in him, hasn't played very well for a couple of years now and most magpies mates of mine reckon he is over rated..never kicks bags of goals and never wins games off his own boot....he aint in buddy or even petries legue, and if he really wants a million a year and thinks he is worth it then he is obviously a big headed ego maniac...never won the coleman...cant bloody kick straight...and sure he takes a great mark, but he does have the likes of beams ,sidebottom, ball, pendleberry, swan ,thomas, wellingham etc kicking it to him on a silver platter...he might be worth half a million..JUST....

Cloke has been a star, could be again, but teams are a collection of talent all at a price.
He will become too expensive for what he delivers, a bad value proposition and he needs to be somewhere other than at the Tigers when that happens.
800K++ will be a massive price for a nervous big bloke lacking in confidence in the coming years, very highly paid but less than elite in years 3 to 5. Maybe he will be great value at Carlton, who really knows.

What would you be prepared to offer him Tooheys? (Not out of your pocket of course) ;D
Just out of interest what's his worth to come to us?

What will we give up for cloke if we are into cloke? or is he a free agent? Also i'm hearing from a carlton insider that he is already agreed to go there.

Cloke and Chaplin would be great as free agents if we don't sell the farm to get them across. We also keep our picks and draft for young talent as well as some mature aged players in the 20-25 bracket. There are still a few holes to fill.

We should have a pick in the top 10 as well as ports 2nd rounder and our own. So that should mean we have 3 picks in the top 30. If this draft is as deep as they say it is then we should do well.

I'm remaining optimistic about this off season.

Round 1 2013

B: Morris Rance Newman
HB: Grimes Griffiths Ellis
C: Grigg Martin Conca
HF: Deledio Cloke Nahas
FF: King Riewoldt Vickery
Foll: Maric Cotchin Foley
Int: Houli Edwards Tuck Sub: Kennedy (1st round draft pick)

Not a bad looking spine. ;D

Starting to take shape isn't it.

Maxwell admitted that they might "lose a few others" with this whole cloke situation. Reid, O'Brien, Wellingham, are still out of contract. I would take wellingham in a heartbeat.

Yes but I would take Cloke over Wellingham. Perfect CHF and would allow Reiwoldt to play deep.

We have spuds playing the 2nd forward role atm.

So far we've had Miller, McGuane, Vickery (Will end up a ruckman anyway) and Elton (who will take time).

We would be ready to click next year if he came across. How many inside 50s have we had for little return this year? The forward line is a shambles atm.

Chaplin playing for Coburg? ;D

Reported that one of leysy's favs Tyson Goldsack is out of contract as well.

No star, but a mobile 194cm tall with excellent skills who can play either end. Surely Collingwood wont have money to pay him much at all.

Wouldnt cost the earth $$$ or trade wise & would bolster our KPP stocks. No more Miller, McGuane etc.

Probably depends on if we get Chaplin, but he's still well worth investigating ILO.

Good call. Excellent swingman gold sack. Can play forward and back, is mobile and from what ive seen a good decision maker on both feet.
