Blair's Boys - 2012 Trade Week Targets

We should get Chaplin. Stick him down back, put more size on griffiths and play him CHF, with jack at FF. Vickery can be backup to big Ivan.

I just assumed if we get Cloke then we wont go after Chaplin.

Personally, I think Cloke will end up at Carlton. I have thought this all along because it makes far too much sense. They are convinced that all they need is a forward target to straighten them up and they wiill be polishing silverware.

In our case, we need a lot of things. A CHF, a CHB, more midfielders, another small forward. What we also need is experience and leadership. We have too many players who undo their good work during a game with a few brain fades, often late in games.

I liken Free Agency to the 10 year rule that was briefly introduced in the 1970s. The League brought it in to allow older players to move clubs easily to get a few extra dollars and keep them in the then VFL. They expected that there would be some sort of organised swapping of players where clubs would lose one player but replace him with another. What actually happened was that North Melbourne, the perennial cellar-dweller of the previous 20 years was the only club to recognise the opportunity that had been given to them on a plate. They recruited THREE players under this rule, Barry Davis, John Rantall and Doug Wade. The resultant culture change led to two flags within five years.

Once you are in, you are in. There is no room for half-measures.

What would you be prepared to offer him Tooheys? (Not out of your pocket of course) ;D
Just out of interest what's his worth to come to us?

We've just signed Deledio to a 5 year contract.
Brett is the same age as Travis so something similar would be about what I'd offer. Perhaps a bit more as he has more value than Brett IMO.
He may go for the security of 5 years and the ability to stay in Melbourne.
Also would see our team more desirable than Melbourne. Carlton obviously the big contender.

Yes I think a premium power forward has more market value than a midfielder. Players like Cloke are as rare as hens teeth.
Anyways the market will decide. Have to leave that to the number crunchers as to whether we can afford him or not.

Yeah....market. I'd rather stick with a fresh trout like Tyro than with a 10 day old silverbream like Cloke.

cloke??? he is ok....but how many goals has he kicked each year???? with that amazing midfield delivering the ball to him every few minutes on a silver platter he should be kicking close to 100 a year, and gets around half that..has been shockingly bad all this year and wasn't much chop last year either...
has he ever won a game of his own boot>> turned a match on its head???...he is a very good player..but he aint worth the money he thinks he is..plus he doesn't sound very team orientated does he,,,its all about him...and yet he aint as dominate as buddy..lecras..johnaton brown..stevie j..drew petrie..pavolich..nick reiwoldt..even betts and milne do more damage......not saying he wouldn't be of value at richmond but not at the
price he wants...tom hawkins wins grand finals...cloke doesn't....

Reported that one of leysy's favs Tyson Goldsack is out of contract as well.

No star, but a mobile 194cm tall with excellent skills who can play either end. Surely Collingwood wont have money to pay him much at all.

Wouldnt cost the earth $$$ or trade wise & would bolster our KPP stocks. No more Miller, McGuane etc.

Probably depends on if we get Chaplin, but he's still well worth investigating ILO.

Agree. It's better for us to make a player a star.

Just ridiculous. Cloke was AA CHF last season!
69 goals. Led the league in contested marking.
With Cloke it is not just about contested marking & goals either. Last year he led i50s at Collingwood.
This year he is up in that stat again. A sign of a very good CHF who pushes up the ground.

His contract negotiations have affected his form this year, I'm sure of that.

Maxwell admitted that they might "lose a few others" with this whole cloke situation. Reid, O'Brien, Wellingham, are still out of contract. I would take wellingham in a heartbeat.

Reid's agreed to a 2 year extension.

yes good point....would definitely be a god pair with jack.....not convinced he would be worth selling the farm for..and I'm not convinced he is team orientated..but lets see how it turns out

Interesting 'list management model we've been following these past few year'... is that 'moneyball'? :)

Thanks TOO - listened to the interview. Media beat up at this stage concerning rfc involvement.

Can't see him being at rfc at this stage.

I wonder how Vickery tracks against Cloke at their respective ages or games played.

I read this. Maybe a slip of the tongue but why does he say "others"? Makes it sound like there are "some" or "one" already.

It was a pretty dumb move for the Captain to make a comment like this on radio not long before the club put out their press release.

Loose lips and all that.

Those two words and Maxwell go quite well in the same sentence really. Wouldnt expect anything less really - he should just shut up and concentrate on playing football. But it is Scumwood so as you were Nick.

Getting both would be ideal. Chaplin for free and Goldsack relatively cheaply, would enable us to load up on midfielders in the draft and buy some time for our KPP's to develop.
