PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

In honour of the new school marking system in Victoria I thought I would give all the players (that I have seen play) a mark. Obviously open to debate, but an important thing to consider with lists about to be tampered with and Richmond considered to have below average skill. I would hesitate to delist anybody B and above.

A+

Deledio - No comment needed

A

Nathan Brown - Occasional clanger but amazing ability

Jay Schulz - Lovely kick from the set shot and on the run

Pettifer - Has set up many goals this year with his passing and his set shots from a distance are excellent

A-

Newman - Set shots for goal have been average but his kicking out from full back has been excellent

Meyer -
Haven't seen enough to rate him higher but his first kick in the Port game brought tears to my eyes, a beautiful kicking action!

B+

Bowden - Fluctuates between a D and an A+ with some of his clangers but is pretty good

Campbell - Lost a bit of distance but kicks smart and very reliable

Stafford -
Good kick for a ruckman

Tambling - Still a little flakey but should pusgh towards the A catagory with more confidence

Krakouer - Not much distance but good kick for goal and capable of the amazing

B-

Gilmour - Only seen him play 3 times so may need help on this one, looked good off the boot on those occasions

Hilton - Probably a little under rated but has kicked some pressure goals and is pretty reliable

Hyde - Dropped off a little after his head clash but I thought he was one of the better kicks last season

Richo - Probably a D from the top of the goal square dead in front, but worth a bet from 50 meters on the boundary

Rodan - Went backwards last year but was good in 2003 and snapped some Daicos like goals, hopefully with some confidence will get back to his best

Tuck - Not that accurate but earns points for his penetration with that quick kick out of the middle

C+

Foley - Not sure what the fuss is about, I haven't seen him miss a target yet, could push higher

Morrison -
A little under rated, not the worst by far. The big blokes get marked a little easier

Polo -
Only seen him in one game live but he looked OK, another who could push higher

Thursfield -
May not have had the time to make any mistakes yet but has been solid so far

C

Graham - Good ordinary footballer

Hall - As above, occasionally suprises but usually serviceable

Johnson - Probably not going to improve now so only just gets a good solid pass

Kellaway -
Felt a little guilty on this one because he really hasn't stuffed up much this year, if his brother still played would have been the only E

Moore - A little worrying for a young player but hasn't shown much with the boot yet

Raines - Still improving and hiopefully will get better, given time he usually hits a target

Simmonds - away from goal he is good for a big bloke but put him in front of the goals and he is terrible

Tivendale - Another who has gone backwards, could have been a B student in the past but his clangers have caught up with him

C-

Chaffey - No need to state the obvious

Coughlan - It pains me to put him here but his kicking has been terrible this year, hopefully as the injury heals it will improve

Hartigan - Pretty good up to about 30 meters but over that he struggles and can miss by a mile

Gaspar - Not a great kick but knows his limitations, other should learn from that

Knobel - Looks awkward but has kicked a few handy goals from set shots, not the worst

Pattison - Kicks a few goals in the magoos so there may be something there, hopefully just needs to grow into his body

D

Archibald - Only seen 2 games but it looked like he wasn't even looking where he was kicking. Still young but a long way to go

Jackson - Really needs to work on this, perhaps needs to work more within his abilities, no more shots from 60 meters please

Roach - Another player who went backwards a little this year, looks like he gets a little flustered when he gets the ball and makes mistakes

Well that is all the players that I have seen enough of to offer any opinion on, others who have seen more Coburg games may have more information on which to base their opinion. I haven't used any personal bias cloud my judgement of those players I don't particularly like, just tried to focus on the one skill. Feel free to comment!  ;)
