my blueprint for succes.
think we need to look at all the champion teams over the last 20 years and you will see they have a skillfull free running backline and they start their attack from there.
west coast in the 90's brisbane the last few years and maybe richmond in the year 2007 08 onwards.
you can't have kellaway ,*smile*, and ray hall in the backline and expect the ball to move slickly and efficiently to our wingers and fowards. as much as we admire their bravery their skills are not up to it.
i think kellaway should be allowed to finish off his career in 2006 when a kid should be ready to fill his spot.
*smile* would have 1 maybe 2 years left max. he is injury prone and could go down anytime. if a trade could be organised with a club that needs 2 top up.may be a young tall or to get a draft pick in the range from 12 to 20.
ray hall tries hard but skills are not up to afl level. he's very indesisive coming out of backline. again i'd go for a draft pick 20-35.
we are short of tall backman so go for trading tivvers and chaffey for a young tall.
so your backline in 2006 would look like
newman kellaway[1year] thursfield
bowdan shultz[the future] hartigan
this backline looks more skilled and mobile. i think shultz will be a star at chb and later chf. put him in preseason and just let him play. daniel jackson can be swapped thru the backline as well. i'd leave bling and delidio on the wings and let them enjoy their footy and get another 20 games into them.tuck in the centre. simmonds to be only used in the ruck changing with nobel.
chf will be a problem this year. pattison should be given first crack in preseason.
if we get rid of the chaffys tivendales halls and gaspers it will create some space for the kids to get some serious game time. we need to get 30-40 games into them quickly for a serious assault at top 4 in the year 2007 2008.
