Bowden v Vlastuin

I know comparing players is BS but someone was bemoaning Vlaus not being an AA, and I think he should be too.
Was watching an old replay on ch. 504 with J Bowden running around. He scored at least one AA I am sure.
Bowden was a star but maligned by many who said he couldn’t defend - I disagree, he was good one-on-one when he had to be, but read the play so well often was on his own. Very good when forward as well.

I wondered would anyone pick him ahead of Vlaus if both at the draft and could only take 1? Or anyone vote Joel as better player with his AA in crap Richmond teams..

Initially I think Vlastuin but then think about how good Bowden was and how versatile.

I'm stumped.

Only time Bowdo didn't defend anyone was Jake King in Joel's last game against the Pies.

Great player Joel but not sure I'd swap him for Nick.

Great poser.

Bowden by a nose. Purely by how Leysy imagines Joel playing under the greatest coaching mind of this era (Dimma) in this team.

What a player he would be. He would have thrived. Not sure Nick would have if era's were reversed.

Floss is a champion, think Joel has him covered (just) for creativity.

Totally different players but to me Bowdo by a nose.
His versatility gives it to him and we should also not forget that he played as a key defender at times, quite undersized.

Yep that’s where I am. Nicks reading of the play and ability to chest mark anything is insane but gives away the dumbest free kicks that always lead to goals.

Bowden so versatile and consistent. You’d love to see a great of our drought period plugged into our 2017-2020 side and see how the team went.

I was thinking more along the lines of

Nick would kick his grandma in the face to get the ball,

Whereas JB would escort her out of harms way.

but i think im going with JB,

And despite 3 medals and his superbity,

I dont have Nick in that club yet?

But it is a very, very, tough comparison.

His left foot passes were a delight to see, and he could kick a goal or two.
Asa resident of Alice Springs I wonder how he is faring these days?

Bowden. Very underrated. If he played in a better side under better coaches, he could have been a Luke Hodge level player. Could do it all.
