Brando Compo

Not sure Baron. With everything prior that got linked to 19, Brando was a walk up for the same.

If it was so clear cut the formula would be released. It's secret herbs and spices stuff. AFL can act based on "the Pub Test" .

It's one of the more astounding decisions handed down by City Hall in a long time.

The AFL should just be honest and just tell it how it is and not hide behind a secret formula.

The AFL made an autocratic decision and granted basketcase Gold Coast a range of equalizing measures and the Football world, (except for Melbourne supporters ;) ), acknowledged that something had to be done.

In Richmond's case the AFL made an autocratic & calculated decision to totally ignore their formula in an effort to subdue a Superpower and the football world, (except for Richmond supporters:mad: ), were ecstatic!

PS. If i were another club's supporter I'd be happy too just as I were unhappy when Geelong and West Coast got their 1st round compensation pick as I didn't think it was fair, (i guess that makes me a hypocrite for thinking we have been duded:)))

I dont think the AFL distorted anything or over ruled their formula.

The formula is explained here.

All players over 25 years of age are ranked in order of guaranteed contract pay.

If you are in the top 5% of these, you are Band 1 - a first round pick (aligned to your existing first round draft pick). So, could be pick 1 to 18.
If you are in the top 5 to 15%, you are in Band 2 - a end of first round pick. Pick 19.
If you are in the top 15 to 30%, you are in Band 3 - a second round pick (aligned to your existing second round draft pick). Could be 19 to 36.
If you are in the top 30 to 50%, you are in Band 4 - a end of second round pick. Pick 37.
and so on

You are also get a loading based on your age - if you are only 25 you get increased by 12 % points. 26 = 10 points, 27 = 8 points, 28 = 6 points, 29 = 4 points, 30 = 2 points.

I think it is reasonable to expect Brando would be in Band 3. To me pick 19 would be overs, pick 36 unders. This is the problem with this system, it is too dependent on ladder position for Band 1 and Band 3. It is a form of equalisation.

Tomlinson versus Brando. Brando was probably top 16% and we get pick 36. Tomlinson could be top 49% and gets pick 37. The bands don't work as they should.

Note: All picks were pushed back because of Gold Coast concessions.

In summary, the formula is flawed, I don't think there was any AFL override or Barrett influence.

Doesn't mention the AFL's ability to adjust for what it sees as unwarranted outcomes. Which is shiat-speak for "changes we make, despite the formula outcome, because *smile* you". And I wouldn't underestimate the media influence on this aspect.

Essendon want a first round pick minimum for Fantasia. Brando should be worth more than him.

Is there any more overrated player than this bloke, fair dinkum. What if his name was Bill Smith, can you imagine Roaming Bwian drawling
"Biiiiillll Smiiiitttth shooots for goallll" I think not.
iMO he's a (very) poor mans Dan Butler.

The Bombers have more overrated players on their list than any other club in the land.
They get overhyped every season & go nowhere. It's hilarious.

They sure do, talk up Fantastia and Tipungwuti as the best small forwards in the comp. They should then exert some defensive pressure, whenever we've played them that's been non existent and we've just waltzed the ball out of our backline. They are both overrated IMO.

Fantasia is a class below Brando as a player. What has Orazio done besides get BT over-excited.? Just compare their CVs.

Yep, don't think Brendon Gale would be putting in a please explain to the AFL if the goal posts had not been mysteriously moved by a significant margin from the year before to enable the AFL to say we JUST fell short of qualifying for an end of 1st rounder, (very convenient).

The reason the football media were in such a frenzy and campaigning against was because that they thought, on precedent, Richmond had to get a 1st rounder.

Believe what you want to believe, if only the AFL were transparent, I doubt they let Brendan have a look at the books from the two years previous to see that it married up with this years verdict.

Who would you rather next year? Him or an 18 yo taken in the second round?

depends on the kid.

Searching for meaning in the compo system/MRP/fixturing/ticketting/etc etc etc etc

is futile.

We'll just keep winning premierships.

then when our window shuts in a decade or so, Benny will assume the throne

and oversee a glorious reign of transparency, consistency and accountability.

I'm quite enjoying myself in the present though.

I love everyone, except Chris Scott, Eddie and Gil.

another flag and I should at least not hate them.

Who cares what pick we get - we just need vacant spots on the list. Stack and Pickett show our recruiters can beat the AFL system.

Careful my friend, there’s no need to adjust your equilibrium and upset your metabolism.

Please maintain your perspective and resist any and all inclinations towards acquiescence towards those three. Notice I didn’t use any abuse Scotty, Eddie and the Bad Pilot.

Rather, as you say enjoy the present and let the dynastic Tigers write their history for the Tiger Army.

A procession of flags awaits.

The challenge is ours as the challengers are not comment if they exist.

Just filled out the RFC survey. The last question asked for input what RFC can do to improve things for members.

I suggested that they need to stand up to AFL over contentious issues and I cited three examples. The ridiculous compensation for Brandon, the free kick differential and the amount of funding and concessions syphoned towards expansion teams.

We should all use it to have our say on anything that annoys us. At least the club will know how it’s members feel.
