Ellis played a major part in Gold Coast's first 2 goals of the third. Always makes me nervous with the ball in the backline. I think we have better options coming up so I wouldn't be too concerned to see another club pay overs for him.

i really dislike these inaccurate posts, replace major with minor ...the rest is still debatable but fair enuff, grimes speared a greasy ball at an outstretched hand which brando struggled to reel in and then macintosh made a dreadful fumble which gave gc an easy shot that brandos late but soft fifty bump and then dive resulted in an easy goal.

Ellis is a disaster of a footballer
Not sure why Hardwick brought him back
Our side is more composed without him.
He adds panic to our side.

Grimes handball was fine. Ellis as he typically does often goes for the ball one handed as he did on this occasion with a very basic and normal handball receive. He cr@pped himself as he normally does. Ellis doesn't fumble it ain't a goal, major contributor. 50 metre penalty was typical Ellis trying to be tough at the wrong time. It wasn't soft it was totally unnecessary. He doesn't give away the 50 and a certain goal it's likely not a goal. Major contributor. I stand by the major description, not an inaccurate description in my view, describing it as minor would have been inaccurate. Your dislike is purely because you have a different opinion.

When ellis kicked his goal from the 50m free he sprinted well over 40m without bouncing the ball. Is it play on when a player starts sprinting? No wonder the players are confused. Stupid rule.

Funny thing is if he had of bounced the ball they would have called play on, because he didn’t they didn’t

From H.O.....
50m penalties

The player with the ball:

  1. Must be allowed to advance the mark by 50m without the infringing player delaying the game.
  2. Will be able to play on while the 50m penalty is being measured out.
How will it affect play? Both changes here will allow teams to move the ball more quickly, which should produce more dangerous inside 50 entries and more scoring.

*When ya think about it the above explanation is pretty airy fairy. Not much detail for a rule that can have huge implications. Sums up the ramshackle manner in which the competition is run IMO.

Question is how do you interpret whether they've played on or not? It is pretty confusing for players. If you start sprinting after a 50metre penalty and just commit to keep going you can probably get 70 metres without being attacked by an opponent in fear of giving away another 50. That's exactly what Ellis did, smart play in the circumstance. He did initially receive the 50 on the half back line yet ended up with a running shot at goal.

that 150m goal he got cancels out one of those blunders you mentioned easy, and you saw there were 100s of more obvious fumbles and woeful passes, yeah right and maybe you saw how many clangers brando had (2) and it looks like you called em too, and then check again coz, a few others (8) of our boys had 4 or more... yeah sounds like you played the game ;) enough to know best.

I am not Ellis's number one fan but Brandon has been playing pretty good footy. People look for what they want to look for, no mention of his going back against the flight of the ball to stop a certain mark from a Sun's player.
Yes that handball was a fumble, (in wet conditions), but it was not a great handball, to view it as a horrendous blunder is a bit rich.

I have said that Ellis's play on from 50 meter penalty was smart play. My comment was purely that Ellis was a major contributor to the first two goals that Suns score in the 3rd quarter. I am not sure why you're getting personal, it's hard to argue that this was not the case. I thought overall Ellis played a reasonable game but he has had history of fumbling in that backline, he's not a super clean player, which is why I'm not keen on him running through the backline. Not sure what my own playing history has to do with anything. Care to elaborate?

Fairly neutral on Brando in 2019. The larger question is where will he be in RFC terms in 2020. Given the younger talent in the VFL doubt that he will be a regular in 2020. Probably in his best interests to move on.

Spot on comment Gazmatron, we all know there needs to be a casualty for the sake of list management and salary cap relief for player retention and Brando fits the bill.
Draft compensation is worked out by some mysterious AFL formula of player's current standing in pay structure of existing team x length of contract and $ offered by suitor. (how Geelong got an end of 1st pick for Motlop I'll never know, hang on yes i do it was so Geelong could get Ablett, The AFL at it's manipulating best).
Anyway Brando is in our top ten in pay structure and we should all be hoping he continues to play good footy so there will be a demand for his services giving us the best result come compo.

Just another reason why i will be barracking for Brando not against.

like you said its opinion based, macintosh threw brando under a bus by fumbling a very easy pickup 10 seconds previous and yeah maybe brando could've pulled up, but the 50 was milked. and the grimes one was also commented on at the time as an awful handball by the fox guy.... and no doubt ellis could have done better too or fumbled it over the line for a point... the next bit is why i mentioned the previous experience bit dig, its because when you are 15 goals up, you are there because you have taken the game on and been attacking in you mindset and backed your skills in, so grimes handball was a bit sharp and brando was off and gone both for this reason....it was natural to them given the situation, had it been a more tense game im sure grimes and ellis would have been more careful and conservative given the conditions. again this is not fact, just my opinion based on my experience/s and again with the 50 i have no doubt if the game was lost because of this, macintoshes u/12 error was the cause rather than ellis being a split second late when brought up in the match review. and this being the brando thread your comments are just as relevant and valid as mine.

Yes I did hear the Fox guy say it wasn't a good handball but that doesn't make it gospel. I saw it, watched it again on my Kayo replay and to me it was a pretty vanilla handball that any average footballer should have accepted without fumbling but then it was his very poor defensive act and inability to subsequently tackle and pressure his opponent that really sowed the final seed . That 50 metre penalty just watched it again, it was totally unnecessary and no wasn't milked, it was late and dangerous and ironic considering his poor defensive effort moments before. OK I understand your point about conditions and mindset based on circumstances and fair enough but Ellis is probably one who needs to just concentrate on getting his defensive efforts right regardless of the circumstances. McIntosh is another topic all together. Had a shocker of a game. PS I have played one or two games or a couple of hundred but that doesn't strengthen or lessen one's opinion, it's irrelevant.

Anyhow agree to disagree. Your opinion differs and that's ok.
