I heard he put the playing group on notice.
If they can’t win the premiership this year he’s going to walk.

Guys,
Got a bit of mail on the situation today and it was as follows.
Ellis is currently on approx $600,000 per yer.
Gold Coast have offered a deal in the vicinity of $2,700,000 over 4 years. Tigers offer is about $200,000 - $225,000 per year short of that and only 2 year deal.
Ellis is a ripping bloke and doesn’t want to leave but the offer is almost to good to refuse, poor guy is very torn. I wish him all the best with his decision.

He can set himself up post footy, he is currently probably one of the last couple to be picked and there are young guns coming after his spot in the side. I can't say I'd blame him if he left and will be thankful he put in for our club.

so you’re saying

Currently on 600k approx
GC offer is $675k approx x4
RFC offer is $475-500k approx x2?

I’m not sure I’d be thrilled about a 25% at cut.

You might find that Ellis has a balloon payment this year, but his average per year isn't much different to what is being offered.
It's all about manipulating the salary cap for free agents and then topping people up for the years they were a bit "down" on the average.

Suns get brando and we got Lynch for not dissimilar amounts of money.

Says a bit about the current standings of the two clubs.

We shouldnt be paying the likes of Short, Broad, McIntosh, castagna, Bolton and especially Ellis anything above 500k.
Whats crouch on 800k.
I would let McIntosh and ellis go hard for crouch.

Can the offee decrease after one game.
Firstly Ellis isnt worth more then 500k
After Saturday's game i wouldn't give him more then 250k.
Can he be traded this week??

Guys,
Have to remember there are a couple of mitigating circumstances at play.
He signed his last contract after being selected in the All Australian squad of 40, deal was around $600,000 per year.
Gold Coast have to pay someone as they have to reach 95% of the cap.
They have holes to fill with that being Lynch, Martin and a few others have left in recent times.
GC would love a little more intel from our inner sanctum so you can’t blame them.
Ellis is a RFA which means he is in our to 25% (11 players) of earners, look at our list and see who might earn more.
If he decides to go, good luck to him, cannot begrudge him for a second.
If he does go, it could free up close to $1,000,000 in our cap with the other delistings / retirements / pay rises / structured payments.
Say what you will about him but Blair Hartley is one of the best in the business.

i dont think for 1 minute brando is worth 700 or will be offered that amount however brando at 600 is probably good value in comparison to what jack martin was getting and will spread good culture, hope he stays but loving the saltiness of a few on here who say brando is no good and are so jelly because it appears he will amass 6 million plus for his footy career.

Suppose, for a minute, you're trying to bring a player to the Black Hole Suns. It's hard.

Examine the only recent success. (Don't think about the failures - you'll give up.) Whatsisname (the mediocre HBF) from Freo for only pick #2 in the National Draft. I keep forgetting his name.

Brandon Ellis is a bargain at only $1.8M a year. As a free agent.

With the draft choice spared maybe BHS can get another Jack Martin. Woot.

i thought the suns had salary cap issues. paying youngsters overs just to stay - two metre Peter on 800 a year.
but giving a 5 year deal to Ellis is a good play to stabilise the club. diligent, professional, hardworking and not likely to lose his pace or run over that time
would effectively replace Harbrow as the experienced pro.
but just like harbrow he wouldn't turn the game for them.

i hope he stays with us. less money. more medals
