Doubly agree - Brown is way too injury prone and Kerr is a contracted player who would not only cost us draft picks but also we'd have to pay off WCE for the time he is contracted to them. Would be very stupid if we go down this path.

so if we can read in to Royals comment that we may top up..

I'd be happy if it was a Brown or a Kerr. Someone who is going to get a game in any other teams best 22 and make a significant contribution. These types will last for 2 - 3 yrs or so, which is about as far ahead as you can plan these days in footy

Not someone like Yze or white or Peverill who are only fringe players at their existing domicile...

if we cant get quality, keep the pick/s

Agree with your points...

Too many posts here are making out that by taking 1 established player = the entire approach is to "Top up". I think we're getting too hung up on it.

Surely, a Top Up is taking 2-3+ players rather than kids. If (for intstance) we just got Brown on reasonable terms, it wouldnt be a top up , it would simply be a smart trade. Trading isnt as one-dimensional as some people make out (or shouldnt be!)

No, topping up is trading away our future by handing over 1st & 2nd round picks for a player with 4 years left in the game

THAT is topping up and if we do it then I give up on this club

Have pondered this long and hard over the past week and have come to conclusion we need to keep our draft picks.
We have a good relationship with eagles in past trading so Kerr deal probably could be done and as i have said previously in ld be better to have one star in the hand than 2 prospects in the bush.
However for the future of the club I think we need to ignore Kerr as it ill take a few draft picks and a player to nab him.
Sure if we only had to swap pick 8 for him and we had another pick in the top 20 in reserve I may be swayed but the downside is too great and I cant see us winning a premiership within 3-4 years so why bother.
