Sadly, Assaultdomesticfowl, we don't got many good at hardball gets ATM.

The more I think about out in-and-under stocks, the more it worries me.

Tivva - nope
Conners - nope
Collins - not really
Polo - not really
Howat - nope
Jackson - not really

Looks like they'll have to promote an outside player (Tivva most likely) and get someone already in the team to stand up.

Connors & Collins may well in time though PomsareSooks, whats to lose by giving them a taste.

It's more that from what I have seen (which is not a lot), they aren't natural in-and-under types. I don't think we can expect them to walk into the seniors and play this role.

Leysy believes they are naturally good in-close pumble & may well make it as this "type" at AFL lvl down the track. One of them could/should be given a taste in this role as it will only help them progress. (fitness pending for Connors can also play back & forward).

is it a good thing or a bad thing that our main support coaching staff has been virtually unchanged since late 2004?

From the outside King & McRae look like decent additions over the past few years.

A 2IC with a different viewpoint on training/strategies & the willingness to challenge Wallet is whats needed leysy thinks Ianus.

the French Revolution may pay a visit.
We all know what happened to the Royals there.
The (K)nobels have departed already ;D

I agree Daisy, I like the idea of King and McRae but I'm not sure if we've seen any great benefit yet. I hated King as he always ripped us when we played North, but his type of run off the backline is showing in some of our younger guys, the problem is they don't appear to have many options to offload the ball to at the moment. They run and then have to prop as there is no lead up players doing their bit from the forward line.

No point appointing someone too good.
They might yet be our next coach.

Well David King is there and I know there's 1 ex player who thinks he would make a good coach.

Clearances this year

R1 V blues + 4 to Richmond
R2 V roos -19
R3 V pies +10
R4 V freo +3
R5 v dogs -11
R6 v hawks -8
R7 v saints +16
R8 v cats -3
R9 v dons 0
R10 v swans -3

More clearances = 4
Less clearances = 5
Equal = 1

Games won = 3
Games lost = 6
Draws = 1

Perhaps worrying is that our biggest clearance loss was against Nth when the skipper was on a self-imposed ban. The next 4 weeks should be interesting, and suggest that the replacement for Johnson should be someone good at hard ball gets. No-one playing at Coburg really stands out in this regard (at least no Richmond listed players).

Clearances this week - 13 more to Adelaide - our second highest this season behind the game against North. Johnson didn't play in either.

Despite the criticism, he is such a vital part of this team.

MrP out of interest do you have the stgats for Johnno's clearances in each game he's played?

No.

I took these from the game reports in the Herald Sun, and his would be available in those.

However, just as pertinent is how many the opposition get when he isn't there.

Also, when he is there, just as important as his own clearances, is his hard work on his direct opponent that gives our guys like Foley, Tuck, Tambling and Deledio a better chance at getting a clearance for the team.

I just checked for myself thanks MrP. In recent weeks its 1 usually clearance, 2 against Geelong, and a high of 7 earlier in the season against Collingwood.

yep I agree,

It's not necessarily the ones he gets but the ones he stops the opposition from getting. Johno is an important part of the midfield!
