Over the last year or two, we have all posted our opinions on how our team should renew itself.
Many of you would have also noticed another team going through a quiet redevelopment, and I guarantee you that most of you wouldn't have picked it.
I think, over the weekend, it may have been, there was an article in the Hun about how many new players had been debuted by each club this season.
Even I was surprised to see that Brisbane had debuted 11 new players this season, almost double the next best side.
As I recall we, at RFC, had debuted 6 new players this season.
Many would agree that Brisbane is probably the best run club in the AFL competition.
There are many examples over the the last few years of its definite actions:
1. Trading Morrison & Weller to us.
2. Trading off Damien Cupido to Essendon.
3. Recruiting Caracella to fill a hole in a premiership team, then ontrading him as soon as that window ended.
Again, with this stat of 11 new players debuting this season, it is another example of Brisbane's moves to make definite progress.
My point is that it will be interesting to see what moves Brisbane makes come the end of the season. What players will it move off the list? Will it be based on age or ability? Will it hold on to some of its more experienced players?
(Already we have seen Martin Pike follow Craig McRae & Shaun Hart)
Will they trade off any of the 11 new players that debuted this year? Will thet give all of these 11 new players time to develop into AFL players?
I know that these are far too many questions to ask first thing on a Tuesday morning, but to me it will be a very good benchmark to compare our own player dealings and trading with.
Too me this part of the season, from September to January, is far more interesting than what goes on during the regular season.
