Brown & Coughlan?

SCOOP said:
If the club has any sense of management and fiscal responsibility or any concept of list management both will have massively reduced contracts or be shipped around.

Cogs has not paid his way over the term of his current contract. Sure he is great when he is out there but how often has he been able to get on the park? Not often enough. Forget about how great he is on the paddock are you willing to invest in a player who has had repeated injuries concerns and plays a crash and bash style that is based on body contact. I have major question marks about his ability to get back and would offer a one year deal preformance based or ship him around. If he played hard ball ath the table I would be very happy to let him walk then give him extra years and dollars. We cannot keep giving guys contracts based on what if's and emotion.

Same with Brown although his glimpse at Mildura gives me hope on this front but I would do the same.

Massively reduced contracts based on games played or find another home.

We should have money in the cap with these contracts reduced as well as Gaspar gone, well some of his goes onthe vets list but it still takes way a portion.

agree completely...i would be interested to see if these 2 would accept greatly reduced contracts....regardless of injury these 2 owe something to the club....

Given our terrible start to the year I was just wondering further on these two..

Will Browny play this week? ???

How is Cogs rehab going? ???

The 0-6 start to the season and all likelyhood of us missing the finals again, could be looked at with regards to these two from a couple of perspectives.

1) We have missed them terribly and they would have made a huge difference hence they should be re-signed again despite injury concerns.

2) We should cut our losses and look to recruit another high profile player or two to the club.

It's not an easy call as both of them are Tiger favourites but considering another year looks to have fizzled out, these are the tough decisions that can really make the difference as we move to the future.

Miller does not have an easy task ahead..

Wouldn't expect Browny til at least we play in Melbourne again at the very earliest.

I've been told Cogs is already running again

It's a catch 22 really. Their value on the market is diminished due to the risk of future injury, so clubs won't be sniffing about unless at a greatly reduced price. If there is any way a deal could be constructed for a 1st or 2nd round including these two and/or any other 26 y/o+ on our list, I'd probbaly jump at it. Unlikely though.

So are they worth keeping in at such a high wage in our cap? I think Cogs and Browny should be realistic about their value and repay some of the faith by taking cuts or a year by contract (not sure when their contracts come up). It really has been a heartbreaking situation what's happened to the these two, but the club needs to be very tough. They're not worth $250/300k+ if they're off the park half of the time. I'd persist for sure, but not at any price

We need loads of room in our cap with such a young list and it goes without saying the football dept and recruitment areas are pivotal to our future, so every cent that can be redirected there should be at all costs

Haven't read the previous posts so don't know what everyone elses feeling on these two are. Me, well I've pretty much forgotten them, don't mean that in a derogotary way. Reality is Brown's leg they don't even know what is wrong with it, fair enough to, we all saw what happened to it. Cogs OP, dodgy ankles & 2 knee recos & was never quick to start with, serious question marks. Might want to shower alone when returning from injury in future!
If either or both come back & are successful, it is a bonus. If they don't it is awful luck, but move on. We need to plan out future team structure with them not in our plans.

I'd be very keen to hang onto Coughlan. Great character and is a ball winner, something we really lack. Undertsand the doubts over his previous injuries and pace, but at his peak he was so good at finding the ball. Despite the quickness of the game, there's still room for these types of players IMO. Have him medically assessed and let's do a deal.

Brown is a more difficult case. I'm not a doctor, but I would be pleasantly surprised if he ever returned to anything near his best after such a horrific injury. I hope to god I'm wrong (especially when you look through his highlight reel on Tiger TV), but I think we wait and see what happens if and when he comes back in the second half of the season. If he can't, both the club and Brown himself may have to face a difficult decision.
