I am no medical expert by any stretch of the imagination, but remember this being debated when I had a similar injury with a dislocation of the ankle.  Just remember the Surgeon saying that I couldn't really do any damage unless of course it was subject to a similar impact that caused the break in the first place which was about a million to one shot anyway and wouldn't have mattered which leg it was on if the impact was that severe.

I sure as hell know that it took awhile for the lateral movement to come back.  But do remember going to a physio who was young and keen and worked it really hard, but made huge improvements in the recovery process.

It also doesnt help an injury such as this to have 110kg sitting on top of it Gus ;D
