Buckley as coach

Make no mistake our next coach should come out of the following;
* Hardwick
* Buckley
* Matthews

First preference would be Hardwick. Has come from the school of Al Clarkson. Would not take any crap from players and would instill discipline that our players currently lack. Tells it like it is. In a few years time Essendon would be ruing the day they let him go.

What about John Longmire and/or Craig Lambert as options?

It would be a good study to see the past , say 15, premiership coaches and compare how many coached the club they played for......

Clarkson: Melb, NM
Thompson: Ess
Worsfold: WC (1)
Roos: Fitz. Sydney(2)
Williams: Coll, Bris
Matthews: Haw
Sheedy: Rich
Pagan: Sth M, Carl, North Melb (3)
Blight: North Melb
Parkin: Haw
Malthouse: ST k, Rich
Joyce: Haw (4)
Jeans; St Kilda
Walls: Carlton, Fitz (5)
Jewell: Rich (6)

So the last 15 individuals comprised 6 who successfully coached the club they played for to a flag. Interesting, before doing this I would have said a vast majority DIDn't coach the club they played for. I guess if you took ALL coaches over the last 20 years a vast majority wouldnt have coached the team they played for?

Anyway, Buckley is a monty to coach, I guess if we go down the tube early this season we'll be able to get a jump on him. Unless he's on some sort of handshake/sweetheart deal with Collingwood?

I way too lazy to do this myself but how many of those coaches won premierships as players?

Shortlist for interviews;

Damien Hardwick
Nathan Buckley
Craig Lambert
Wayne Campbell
John Longmire
Leigh Matthews
Andy Collins
Marcus Ashcroft
Chris Scott
Sean Wellman

Get everyone in for two comprehensive and extensive interviews with The President, The board, and a sub committee of external independent football people.

First interview will be about their thoughts on;

1. The way to play the modern game
2. On the Richmond football Club
3. On the current playing list and leadership group
4. On their CV, experiences and philosophies
5. On how they believe they can help the Richmond Football Club

The second interview will be;

A major presentation on every detail of how they will transform the Richmond Football club.

Major points include;

*Playing List - who they would keep, who they would let go and how they would approach that.
*Their own team - assistant coaches, medical and fitness guys etc.
*Recruiting and Development
*Their plans and structures on how the football will be played and how they intend to impart that on the playing list and football department.
*Who or what type of players they intend to target.

After an extensive process, the cream will rise to the top and we will have the best candidate for our football club.

This needs to be done very soon. Sack the hack in Wallace now, put in an interim coach with the message to blood as many kids as possible every single week. We need to be one step ahead of the rest of the competition and this is the only way. Get the jump to get the best coach into this club.

Buckley will teach them how to kick and make the right decisions, he was a leader and he was taught by Malthouse.

But the important thing is to ensure how long they think it will take to win a flag and make finals. We have a good base, but we need someone to take us into the right direction. We need to get rid of dead meat at the top.

Buckley may not have won a flag but there is only so much an individual can do to a team.

We've had too many soft coaches for far too long. We need a 'Take no *smile*, Play for me or *smile* off ' type coach

I just can't see Eddie the Control freak letting Bucks anywhere near us or anyone else for that matter!!

I have turned. Wallace has let too many players cruise through without putting in and I have had enough!!
