Buckley says no to roos

I still have my money on this not lasting two years. Either Malthouse will blow a gasket, or Bucks will go all Brutus on Mick's ass.

I'm with you on the former. Always a possibility when it comes to Mick, though I really don't feel the latter is in Bucks interest.

For mine, he has taken a big risk in going home as the favoured son, who will be expected to deliver a premiership ... He'll want to get the best out of his apprentiship as he possibly can. I can't see him knifing Mick, when given it's highly likely 2011 will be a "handover" year as it is.

Only if Mick wants to hang up the coaches whistle. Have you heard him say anything that indicates he is remotely near that place?

This has Howard/Costello written all over it

Agree. Big risk by McChin to place two large egos working together for 5 years.

It'll change from 'Mick slams Pies' to 'Mick slams Bucks' in the next 2 years.

Mick wasn't a happy man in the after- press conference photo.

I'm really pleased that the RFC board stuck to its process. We've dodged three coaching bullets: the push for Buckley, the push for Sheedy and the push for Campbell.

Buckley, I think, is insecure. Just read his book. There is a world of difference between him and Voss. This is a day that Collingwood will come to rue. Which will be nice when it happens.

Now the board can get down to business and choose a new coach on real merit.

Interesting, the consensus last year was that people thought Buckley would clearly be the better coach. I don't agree with that.

Got this in a email today, will pass on a snippet.

"I would like to congratulate Nathan Buckley on again showing us his true colours. Nathan Buckley shall be remembered as one of footballs great receivers. Not one to go in and get his own ball or his own job he is instead a man who waits for what he wants to be handed to him".

He wanted the Collingwood job and has been given the next set of keys. He was never going to go to the also-rans in Richmond or the Roos, never. He's also managed to keep onside one of the biggest power brokers in football and Sourthern Australian media. Played it pretty well I would have thought.

He got his move to Collingwood as a player when he wanted out of Brisbane. He's got his coach-in-waiting role as well. Sure he didn't win the flags but he's always got the jobs he wanted. Pretty shrewd operator.

I never knew Micky Malthouse emails you Scoop. ;D

actually I should refine the story a little (error on my part - good call Mel)

Julius is Mick, Antony is Bucks, Eddie is Cleo, and Pert is Brutus.

You are right, Antony won't knife Julius. Doesn't have the balls to get his hands dirty. His job is to look pretty, and to keep

Cleo on the other hand doesn't the same scruples. She just wants a big fat premiership cup and her head on the front page of the Heraldius Sunius holding it.

If Julius starts losing a few battles, Cleo will be hearing the masses in Rome bitching and moaning. Now Cleo was not the Cleo who first came to Rome, so this was a problem. She was fatter now, her TV show had been bumped from prime time, and her face goes beetroot red when angry, so losing the masses is not an option.

She therefore brings Antony and Brutus together and says something needs to be done. Since moving to Rome, her Q score has gone through the floor, Julius's incompetence cost her at least one Logie, and Julius must die. Sadly though, murdering Caeser ain't good for your rep, so she asked for doofus and goofus to do the deed.

Antony ummed and ahhed. Antony was a good bloke, but he lacked balls. They begged him to come to Nubia and become their leader, but Nubia was broke, was a hole, and King Brayshaw was a tool. Likewise the dysfunctional tribes of Germania were trying to reunite once again under a new warlord, but it was an open process for application, and Antony didn't have the balls to risk losing. He wanted to rule Rome, but wasn't prepared to kill for it.

Brutus on the otherhand, he owed Cleo a few favours (she got him his last gig at Channel 9).......

Bucks has done North a favour. They don't have the money to pay him $700K per year and staff up the recruiting and coaching department properly.

They should go for a $300K coach and spend the remainder on recruiting and development, just like us!

This is the Wallace scenario with us in 2004 and is myopic in the extreme.
