Nathan Buckley has cancelled an interview with Richmond scheduled for later today, and he will be named as Mick Malthouse's senior assistant coach this morning at a press conference at the Lexus Centre at 11am.
It is likely Buckley's appointment will be for two years.
Buckley was due to meet Richmond's director of football operations Craig Cameron to discuss his candidacy for the vacant senior coaching position at Tigerland, and the cancellation confirms that the former Collingwood champion is set to return to his former club.
Buckley yesterday declined the North Melbourne senior coaching job after prolonged conjecture about his future
At a Collingwood board meeting last night, it is believed Mick Malthouse was re-appointed as senior coach for a further two years, with agreement reached on an arrangement which would see Buckley work as his assistant, and apparently, his heir apparent.
Malthouse had reportedly been annoyed by the delay in his re-signing, and there has been speculation that two such strong-minded football figures could not work together, but after meeting nine days ago, it seems Collingwood, Buckley and Malthouse have reached agreement.
