Dear Punters, I'm a cub on this site and I dont want to lecture anyone, but I'm gonna. (If your not panicing or wanting to delist 2004 draft picks, no need to read on)
I flew from the gold coast on Friday night to see the Tigers so I was pretty down about the game but for *smile* sake, all the panic and bagging our players (particularly young blokes) is a sad indictment on this site. Yeah, they played like jokes but the dogs would have beaten the Cats, the Saints, West Coast, whoever by 10 goals on Friday. Yeah, we threw in the towel and sooked, but the crowd were as stunned and shocked as the players. It wasnt an ordinary game. It was a weird futuristic super speed game and the tigs were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Might have even been a bit of Karma for TW walking on the doggies? Its round 1. One swallow does not make a summer and one belting, however horrific, does not make the winter lost. I reckon we might go alright this year.

Good post Golly, and welcome to PRE.

I agree that it is not the end of the world. I dare say even the realists would have found this season is going to be tougher than last, but there will be moments of delight, and yes, there will be victories, close losses, and magical marks, goals etc.

I think the worrying thing for the club is not the younger players, but the 3rd to 5th year players, who go missing too easliy. If we continue to be patient, the next brigade of kids coming through will gel together and make thier own culture. the players who tend to go missing too much have been unfortunately tutored under Frawley, and recycled players such as Houlihan, King, Blumfield and the likes. We need to grow our own leaders, and with players like Lids, Patto, Cogs, Tuck and also newman, and Hyde, they might just have the goods in that department. These players hopefully haven't been damaged by Frawley and his merry men, and will develope a winning culture which they will lead into September action.

good on you tigergollywog, but as you live on the gold coast, you probably missed what ryan griffen said in todays herald-sun. so let me fill you in... he didn't say his team played well, he said we gave up in the 2nd half. so i don't think it's right to say they could have beaten Cats, the Saints, West Coast and the like

Disagree - the Cats, Saints or Eagles would have put far more pressure on the Doggies mid-field particularly at the centre bounce - that would negate the Doggies run (no use running if you haven't got the ball) - plus those teams you mention have tall players at both ends of the ground who can play tall or medium - and most of all they have players who have more skills and play for each other unlike the Tigers on Friday night.

Nah we made the Doggies look good - any real pressure and the Doggies lack of height will bring them undone IMO. Time will tell......

While I don't necessarily disagree with what you say gollywog I think, with 4 posts in a couple of months, it's fair to summise you're not as passionate about posting on this message board as some.

Some people post several times a day every day.  They discuss the good things and the bad.  There are a few who fire up after a flogging and are quiet after a win but the majority who've posted this weekend are just genuine supporters who bleed yellow and black.

I wish some had a "less colouful" way of expressing their opinions, it's been a bit of a moderator's nightmare, and I wish some would take a few deep breaths or sleep on it before posting, but basically they are doing what they do every day.

Discussing the current events of the club which didn't lend itself to too much positivity Friday night unfortunately.

Hopefully discussion will move on to next week's game sooner rather than later. :hearton

Rosy, i'm one to admit i should have slept on it on friday night myself, although i'm still no happier today as i was on friday, but i guess now i can laugh about it a little more (we have no choice but to laugh)

Welcome aboard Tigergollywog,

fantastic post.

I agree with your great post and wished you could have seen the tigers win.

It appears to be a Richmond supporter you must be feral these days, as we are too many feral supporters.

What a true supporter would do is admit we played and shocker and support the team not bag the crap out of them. It appears almost everyone at Punt Road End is an expert coach and they just keep kicking the boots into the club.

Great to see Richmond has the most feral of all supporters in the AFL. It's more embarrasing following the club because of its supporters than the poor on field results.

I dont think the dogs would have beaten any of those side for one simple reason. They're fighters. We simply lay down and died.
