Calling all PRE Teachers

The teachers like me who have served on councils know what I was alluding to.

I guess like the majority of PREnders who aren't teachers I'll have to remain ignorant as to what that was.  :hearton

Many factors make up a good school environment that stimulates kids and provides opportunities for them.

The school council and parents association are often unrecognised for their efforts to make the school what it is but their input is massive and must at times seem a thankless task apart from the rewards of continually improving the school for the kids benefit.

I feel we've been blessed with the school our kids went to.  The majority of teachers are their good friends who inspire, rather than force them to learn.  A couple have pretty big chips on their shoulders but they're on the outer thankfully.

The new teachers coming through seem to be wonderful.  Young, fresh, inspirational, caring, friendly and very devoted. Then again maybe we only get the best. ;)

I'm sure it's a better learning environement when everyone is working in the same direction as part of the team.

:grouphug for the school councillors and pa members who've worked so hard to ensure our kids weren't disadvantaged by attending a relatively small rural school.

:grouphug for the wonderful teachers who have given our kids such a good start in life.

Enjoy your holidays.  ;D

"If there are any idiots in the room, will they please stand up" said the sarcastic teacher. After a long silence, one freshman rose to his feet.

"Now then mister, why do you consider yourself an idiot?" enquired the teacher with a sneer.

"Well, actually I don't," said the student, "but I hate to see you standing up there all by yourself."

Why is a classroom like a car? Because it is full of nuts and has an old crank at the front!

:hihi

Give me the love people, was offered my first teaching job today. Three bloody big cheers for MR JIMMYGOONER BOY :clap :clap :clap

Congratulations Jimmy. Best wishes for a successful and fullfilling career. :clap

Thanks Rosy, took a big punt leaving a safe Fed Gov job early this year, but believe me it was all worth it.

The teacher came up with a good problem.

"Suppose," she asked the Punt Road Enders, "there were a dozen sheep and six of them jumped over a fence. How many would be left?"

"None," answered little Rosy.

"None? Rosy, you don't know your arithmetic."

"Teacher, you don't know your sheep. When one goes, they all go!"

well done Jimmy - welcome to the profession - and yes, it is a profession! "teaching - every pay packet a fortune, every classroom an opportunity....."

trust me, I was in a "safe" job in the commercial sector - earning more money, and travelling around the country...I was miserable and so were 80% of the people around me....

Jimmy and Woz I bet you blokes are wonderful teachers seeing you've made a conscious decision to follow this path after experiencing other careers first. Must be something you really wanted to do. Being happy in your job is so important. Life's short, gotta enjoy it. :beer

So true Rosy. My only advice to your daughter is to do a double degree - I think you mentioned Arts / Education. That way she will have the best of both worlds.

Is this advice that you should talk to your daughter about?

I have always found that the best teachers are those that come to the profession later, after a little life experience first.

There was a time back in the seventies where the govt offered scholarships. We had a great swag of teachers come through that had not even had a part-time job.

:)

A nod is as Good as a wink to a Blind Horse.

No need to remain ignorant PRE, we allude to the Secret Handshake, that Knowing Nod, the Raised Eyebrow and the Clearing of the Throat.

It is the reason that all Staffrooms have curtains and that no Student has ever entered the Hallowed Domain. Teachers drink from those Dirty Brown Stained Coffee Mugs, wear their Checked Jackets with the Leather Sleeve Patches and ruminate about the System. Once upon a time there was smoking in the Staffroom, now the smoke has cleared but the room is still foggy.

Ah how the teacher longs for the Good Old Days, when the cane ruled, the strap was fine too but a decent belting never hurt anyone. Kids today are soft, lacking discipline, parents are the problem.

Children were seen but never heard and the sooner they left the better, those outspoken little Buggars keep hanging around, they demand independence, they have valuable opinions.

Teachers spend years at University and College to perfect these Arts, Plebs will not understand and importantly Plebs must never find out.
