I cant see a win from trading CCJ for North pick 20 is what we will want and they wont cough it up.

Theyll say take 38 or we walk him to the PSD.
We should have come out straight away said its Pick 1 or pee off. In the end they'll be happy to give up 20.

Fair call, lets walk him to the PSD next year.
I don't know about that strategy  but if you had to put forth a long contract to get a target player then he'd be right near the top of the list for me.
Smooth mover in traffic and getting better every year, absolute gun.
At the very worst make the Roos have to commit to a huge contract if they want to keep him. ;)

North clearly have the upper hand here with the psd draft an option. CCJ may even get a sign on bonus if he goes psd!

a pick upgrade from 28 to 20 would be a clear win for us considering the psd alternative.

If they've offered him 4 years on decent coin for a key tall pick 20 is the least they should offer.

If the Roos want to play silly games then I'd be recommending talking to Jy Simpkins management and getting some early talks in.
2 can play at this game.
Was one of our original academy prospects as well. But of course the AFL only allowed you to pick academy players the year after he was eligible for the draft.

Exactly. Aholes happy to pay the $ but not the trade price. The contract should dictate the trade value.

We will get pick 20 for CCJ. We may have to give a late pick back which will be sold as return for Tarrant but ultimately pick 20 will come our way.

How do I know this?

CCJ is managed by TLA - Ned Kelly sold his business to this international mega sports management company and is still involved. When a manager endorses a players trade request it then becomes their responsibility to make the deal happen and their highest motivation is to get a fair deal for both clubs. This is to ensure they preserve the relationship they have with the clubs but also the other talent they manage from those clubs. Its critical that they don't pee off Cotchin for example who is also managed by TLA.

Ultimately TLA will have significantly more leverage over #lolnorf than we will. They can direct their other clients away from them if they don't deal fairly on a trade. They can tell talent looking to move that norf is too hard to deal with and hence suggest u go to another club instead.

CCJ is a pick 20 with 4 years development and been given a $450kx4yr deal. In every way pick 20 in return is reasonable and potentially unders.

TLA has the power to demand norf hand it over and they will have to. To do otherwise risks their ability to attract future talent and retain existing talent. Far too big a risk to run.

It may take till late in the piece for TLA to play their hand (they will hope the clubs can get their without their intervention). However, they will play it if they have to.

Interesting on SEN yesterday Tom Morris said that Richmond clearly want a 1st round pick and that even Pick 20 is not enough & North would have to offer another later pick on top of that.

Can listen here from the 2 min mark to around 4 min mark https://player.whooshkaa.com/episode?id=906489

Will have to wait and see what unfolds.

We're not going to negotiate pick 20 as a starting point. Then we have to defend our position and if it has a weak argument we compromise on something less than pick 20. If we start out as we want pick 15, or 20 and 38, we can fall back to 20 and Tarrant for example.

North can't trot out the 'he's only played 9 games in 4 years' garbage and then sign him for 4 years themselves.

It's like contradictorily saying he's not very good, but we think he'll be good for a long period.

Had to bloody be North didn't it with their PSD leverage.

Yes, I suspect that pick 20 and something with the Chol/Tarrant FA compensation will be the result.

Just on TLA - they have nearly 30% of all the players in the AFL on their books. Probably hold more power than the individual clubs.

First rule of negotiation: always ask for more than you expect to receive.
Second rule: leave something meaningful for the other party.
A negotiation is where not everyone gets everything they want but both get most of what they want. Never burn bridges.

I don't follow the play hardball line.

With the PSD pick as a fail safe, anything North gives us for CCJ is essentially goodwill.

Anyone at North would be rightly filthy if that goodwill extended to pick 20, it would be an insane decision.
Your not taking into account the stress this path places on ccj and his preferred fair trade which gets him to north earlier.

Yes. And the potential to lock CJ away and use their PSD for another experienced player. CJ was pick #20 and now ready-made after 4 years of development.
