Cam Howatt

It's probably been mentioned before, but does anyone remember Johnny Howat (I think it was John) from the late-80s/early 90s era? I don't suppose Cam is any relation is he? John was a very no frills tall defender - the sort of unskilled gutsy toiler that we specialised in back then!

I remember John Howat, especially the day he knocked out John Barnes.

Still trying to work out what Howat did to Barnes. I was watching them on the HFF/wing and, I took a sip of beer, then Barnes was on the ground ???

They probably found it hard to fit him in, with Crawford,Mitchell,Hodge & a couple of others in their midfield.

Well he won't get it any easier at tigerland with Coughlan, tuck, Johnson Rodan, deledio Tambling, JON etc making him earn his spot.

As for the Howat scenario:
Did Johnny got angry and malicious and stiff arm barnes at the nape of the neck?
OR: John wasn't looking where he was going, wasn't sure what was going on around him and ran full tilt into a bloke who never knew what hit him.

i know which version i believe.

Not sure! I know he often ran into players, but these days, eye correction techniques have come leaps and bounds.

I dunno much about Cam Howatt, but I ask the question: if he is any good, then why, after a couple of years with Box Hill didn't Hawthorn make every effort to secure him ? Particularly when they would have had him under their noses and his coach was a favourite son of Hawthorn's who you would have thought may have pushed him hard with his maternal club ?

Again, I'm just asking the question, as I don't know much about him, so don't any Softsiders go off half cocked b!tching and whinging that I'm bagging Howatt.
