PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

Was on SEN this morning, covered a wide range of topics, many of which been discussed on PRE in different threads...

Ben Cousins - Melbourne won't be considering him, didn't want to slight Ben though and said it was no knock on him and that he would offer a lot to a club but they are going to concentrate on youth and the draft and watch players evolve.

Financial Situation - Budgeted for a $1 Million dollar profit, so they are in dire straights financially (my opinion) as without the $3 million raised by the Debt Demolition they would have lost $2.5M. Raised that $3 Million in 3 mths. He can be quoted as saying the club "has no money" and TPP's are a concern. Can't remember the exact numbers but he said something like they has 5 or 6 Presidents in 10 years, 7 - 8 CEO's and just as many marketing/commercial strategy manager changes. Had made it very hard to have any consistency and the after effects are quite damaging.

Natanui & Marketing Tim Watson feels everytime he talks to someone in football they are sure Melbourne are going to sign Melbourne, Schawb did not discount it. Merely said he would be a exciting player for supporters, likened him to some wildebeast or predator that is amazing to watch on a Attenborough doco. Did say it would be unfair to heap to much expecation on him if he was selected an d that as a club that is 150 years old it would be in a sad state if they were relying on a 17yr old for their future. Likened their development/marketing/cultural model on New England Patriots, they will be concentrating on selling/promoting a evolving/exciting team rather than individual.

They will certainly be going back to and keeping the name Demons.

Chris Johnson Played it like, Johnson wanted assurances of certain things happening opportunity wise that they could not guarantee so he walked to go somewhere he felt more opportunity.

Nathan Caroll When asked why is this so complicated he answered, because we have no money (i imagine he is referring for possible litigation, I know the Thomas case hurt St Kilda's expenses drastically this year), TPP issues and contractual obligations. In addition we have to be fair to Nathan (sure that is lawyer talk) as he wants to continue his AFL careeer and be given fair opportunity to.
