After watching Carlton's demolition of the Lions last night, one can only hope they have peaked early. If not, then show that same form as last night and we are in deep diddly doo.

Who, may I ask, have we to combat Fevola and Fisher up forward?? And how about their midfield?? Very good I thought.

I will be there with trembling lip and legs, wondering if we can break the hoodoo Carlton seem to have over us. Of course, a different set of umpires may not allow the favoured treatment to Fevola that he always seems to get. Did you see the "Lloyd" type swan dive, which resulted in another cheapy goal. That is not to mentiion the two 50 soft 50 metre penalties, which also ended up changing the fortune of the game. Oh dear, stop it Graystar, you will only get a headache. I will pin my hopes on Gas giving Fev. a bath. Haha!!

I think most will agree there needs to be a focus on limiting supply to Fevola. However it's interesting to note that Fevola kicked several goals last year in losing games. What I think we see is an improvement to the blues midfield and defence. If our forwards work harder and kick accurately (unlike the lions last night) it may not matter if the fevola-clown kicks 7.

If the midfielders do their job properly the supply to Fev will be meagre and you won't need to worry about Gas and the other defenders.

I saw the swan dive, I was watching the game with Carlton supporters. As soon as I saw it I said that was such a Lloyd thing to do... they scoffed and cheered when Fev kicked the goal.

Argh, it was like hell.

Carlton have definitely improved, Fevola is a brilliant FF, and they should move up the ladder this year. But let's get real; they beat an equally young Brisbane team without Bradshaw, with a game plan focused on feeding a very underdone Jonathon Brown. Brisbane had played three good teams, and travelled for the four weeks. They faded in the third and Carlton smashed them that quarter.

Our midfield, overall, is as good as Brisbane's, and our defence and attack are both stronger.

Anything can happen first game, and Carlton will get a (brief) bounce out of their NAB cup win, but we should win. I don't think we'll have the brain-fade we had round 1 last year. Our younger players are tougher mentally now than they were, more determined for success, and I sense they have a greater sense of ownership of the team's fortunes.

The accounts of Deledio's performance against the Pies were great; he is clearly aiming to be a leader who stands up, and there is finally a desperation in Ritchie's game, Raines and Polo have always had it. The accounts of the Melbourne game had Pettifer leading the way. These are great signs, if they develop.

Wallace is hungry for success--ravenous for it. I think we'll be proud of our boys after round 1.

Won't have to worry about Gas, he will be at Coburg.

That would be a surprise Scooper, and Andy would be devastated. You are talking here of a Tiger protected species.

We can hope, Gray. He should have been given the bullet at the end of last season.

That is the problem, protected for deeds done four years ago. People round these parts have to start dumping memories of what players were like at ther peak and look at them today.

Be interesting to see what Birthday boy does, I know he is a little underdone but he has had limited preparations before and come out and played blinders. He won't have much to contend with from Carlton's defence. It's good now because despite the posters on here, our supporters etc, Carlton are actually under more pressure to perform than what we are. may benefit us.

Sick of this filth too! Was watching my old cricket team in a GF yesterday & the number of filth shirts, caps & footies that have either come out of mothballs or bought in the last 48 hours is sickening. I am extremely nervous about this game (mainly because MB64 thinks we are a no-brainer to win it), but it is the one game of the year I really want us to win now.

Obviously not!! Damn them all to hell and back. I hope and pray we give them the mother and father of all hidings on Sunday week.
